Master Hydrocity Zone (2) in Sonic & Knuckles! Learn strategies for the Whirlpool Machine mini-boss, navigate tricky water sections, and utilize shields to survive.

Alright, so after Angel Island, we're diving into Hydrocity Zone. Think of it as Labyrinth Zone from the first Sonic game, but cranked up a notch. You'll be dealing with conveyor belts, fans, those speed-hand catapults, and some spinning pillars. It's a bit more challenging, but totally doable!

Walkthrough
  1. 1
When you first land, just head right and hit that switch. Then, go through the opening – you'll need to press A, B, or C to let go of the bars – and drop down. Keep moving right, and you'll see some bubbles. Make sure to inhale these whenever you're underwater; they're your lifeline to avoid drowning!
  2. 2
You'll find a Water Shield in a passageway up ahead. Grab it!
  3. 3
After taking out some Badniks, drop down again. If you've got that Water Shield, you're golden – enemy projectiles won't bother you, and you won't drown. Head through the next passageway, letting go of the poles as you go.
  4. 4
Hold Right, and you'll hit a Starpost. Keep going through the loop-de-loop, but on your second pass, veer left.
  5. 5
Now you'll be running across the water. Hold Right, and you'll encounter a Turbo Spiker. Go through the next loop-de-loop and then head right.
  6. 6
Drop down and keep heading right until you find another switch. Hit it to activate the air fans.
  7. 7
Climb up the conveyor belts, then use the spring to jump up. Head left and enter the Giant Ring.
  8. 8
When you pop back out, go up the slope and past the Starpost. You'll want to use your Spin Dash to blast through the tunnel ahead – this leads you straight to the Mini-Boss!
Tips
  • The Water Shield is super important here. It negates drowning and makes dealing with underwater sections much easier. Try to grab it as soon as you can.
  • Don't forget to inhale those bubbles when you're underwater! It's the only way to replenish your air supply.
  • The Spin Dash is your best friend for breaking through that final tunnel to the boss.
