Accessing and Understanding the World Map

Your World Map is an invaluable tool for planning your adventures and keeping track of important locations. To access it:

  • Press the designated "Map" button (typically 'M' on PC, 'Select' on PlayStation, or '-' on Switch).
  • Once open, you'll see a detailed overview of Rue Valley, including various regions, points of interest, and your current location.

Map Legend & Key Indicators

Familiarize yourself with the map legend to quickly identify important markers:

  • Player Icon: A small, glowing arrow indicates your current position and direction.
  • Quest Markers: These appear as exclamation marks (!) for new quests, question marks (?) for completed quests ready for turn-in, and various symbols for active quest objectives. Pay close attention to these to efficiently complete tasks.
  • Towns & Settlements: Represented by house icons or small village symbols. These are safe zones where you can find merchants, quest givers, and crafting stations.
  • Dungeons & Caves: Marked by skull or cave entrance icons. These areas often contain valuable loot and challenging enemies.
  • Resource Nodes: Small icons indicating gathering spots for materials like Rueberry Bushes (leaf icon), Iron Ore Veins (pickaxe icon), and Sparklebloom Flowers (flower icon).
  • Fast Travel Points: These are glowing blue obelisks on your map, allowing instant travel between discovered locations.
  • Undiscovered Areas: Shrouded in fog; explore these regions to reveal more of the map and uncover hidden secrets.

Effective Navigation Strategies

Mastering movement and navigation will save you time and help you uncover all of Rue Valley's secrets.

Using Fast Travel

Fast travel is your best friend for long-distance journeys. To use it:

  1. Open your World Map.
  2. Click or select a previously discovered Fast Travel Point (blue obelisk icon).
  3. Confirm your destination. You will instantly be transported there.

Pro Tip: Always activate any Fast Travel Points you encounter, even if you don't need them immediately. This will make future travel much more convenient.

Setting Custom Waypoints

Need to mark a specific spot for later, or guide yourself to a quest not marked on the map? Use custom waypoints:

  • Open your World Map.
  • Click or select the desired location on the map.
  • A custom waypoint marker will appear, and a directional indicator will show on your HUD, guiding you to that spot.

Exploring Undiscovered Regions

Don't be afraid to venture into the unknown! Exploring new areas is crucial for:

  • Uncovering new quests: Many side quests are found by simply talking to NPCs in new areas.
  • Finding rare resources: Unique crafting materials, like Glimmering Shards or Ancient Roots, are often found in specific, less-traveled zones.
  • Discovering hidden chests: Keep an eye out for suspicious nooks and crannies. Opening more than 10 different chests contributes to the Treasure Hunter achievement!
  • Activating new Fast Travel Points: Expanding your fast travel network is always a good idea.

Minimap & Compass

While exploring, pay attention to your minimap in the corner of your screen. It provides a localized view of your immediate surroundings, showing nearby enemies, resources, and quest objectives. Your compass will also point you towards your current quest objective or custom waypoint.
