In the enchanting world of Rue Valley, you're never truly alone. Companions and allies are vital for overcoming challenges, uncovering secrets, and making your journey through the valley much more enjoyable. This section will guide you through recruiting, utilizing, and maximizing the potential of your helpful friends.

Recruiting Your First Companion: Barnaby the Beekeeper

Your first opportunity to gain a loyal ally comes early in your adventure with Barnaby, the eccentric but kind Beekeeper. He's an invaluable resource for early-game foraging and defense.

• Location: Barnaby can be found at his Apiary, nestled just north of the Whispering Woods entrance, past the Old Mill.
• Quest: To recruit Barnaby, you must complete the quest "Sweet Nothings."
• Walkthrough:
  1. Approach Barnaby at his Apiary. He'll be visibly distressed about his missing Queen Bee's Scepter.
  2. Accept the quest "Sweet Nothings." He'll mention he last saw it near the Glimmering Pond.
  3. Travel to the Glimmering Pond, located southwest of the Apiary.
  4. Search the reeds along the eastern bank of the pond. You'll find a sparkling object. Interact with it to retrieve the Queen Bee's Scepter.
  5. Return to Barnaby and present him with the scepter. He'll be overjoyed and offer his services as a companion.
• Barnaby's Abilities:
  • Foraging Bonus: When Barnaby is active, you have a 15% increased chance to find rare herbs and flowers in forested areas.
  • Bee Swarm Attack: In combat, Barnaby can unleash a Bee Swarm, dealing minor area-of-effect damage and applying a "Distracted" debuff to enemies, reducing their accuracy by 10% for 3 turns. This ability has a 5-turn cooldown.

Unlocking the Ancient Guardian: Golem of the Sunken City

Later in your journey, a powerful, silent protector awaits in the depths. The Golem of the Sunken City offers unparalleled defensive capabilities.

• Location: The Golem is dormant within the Sunken City Ruins, accessible only after completing the main quest "Tides of Time."
• Quest: To awaken the Golem, you must complete the "Heart of Stone" quest.
• Walkthrough:
  1. After completing "Tides of Time," speak to Elder Willow in Willow Creek Village. She will tell you tales of a guardian in the Sunken City and give you the Ancient Golem Key.
  2. Travel to the Sunken City Ruins. Navigate through the flooded corridors until you reach the Central Chamber, marked on your map.
  3. In the Central Chamber, you'll find a large, inert golem. Locate the pedestal in front of it.
  4. Use the Ancient Golem Key on the pedestal. This will initiate a short puzzle sequence involving matching elemental runes.
  5. Rune Puzzle Solution: The correct sequence is: Water Rune (blue), Earth Rune (green), Air Rune (white), Fire Rune (red).
  6. Once the runes are correctly placed, the Golem will awaken and pledge its loyalty.
• Golem's Abilities:
  • Stone Skin: The Golem provides a passive 20% damage reduction to all party members in combat.
  • Earthquake Stomp: In combat, the Golem can perform an Earthquake Stomp, dealing significant damage to all enemies and having a 30% chance to stun them for 1 turn. This ability has a 7-turn cooldown.
  • Resource Gathering: When the Golem is active, you have a 10% increased chance to find rare ores and gems in cave systems and mountainous regions.

Managing Your Companions

You can only have one active companion at a time. To switch between companions:

• Open your main menu (usually by pressing 'Esc' or 'Start').
• Navigate to the "Companions" tab.
• Select the companion you wish to activate and confirm your choice.
• Your previous companion will return to their home location, ready to be called upon again.

Remember to utilize your companions' unique strengths to your advantage in different situations! Barnaby is excellent for exploration and early combat, while the Golem excels in tough battles and resource collection.
