Hey there! This mission, "Motive Undeclared," is a bit of a unique one. Ellis wants you to open up the entrance to the Dakota Vein on Level 9, and the catch is you have to do another mission first. Don't worry, though, it's pretty straightforward once you know the steps.

Walkthrough

    First things first, you'll need to head to Level 7. From there, find the Elevator located to the south of Cranktown. Use it to go down to Level 8.

    On Level 8, you might notice a Bezel Shard. Just a heads-up, you can't grab it right now unless you have a straight hex available. It's sitting on the last hex behind the Terminal north of the elevator that takes you back to Level 7. So, we'll have to skip that for now.

    Your main goal is to place Energy Hexes to create a path leading to the elevator that goes down to Level 9. Once you've made your path, descend to Level 9.

    On Level 9, Core Lift 3 is located at the west end of the area. The Dakota Vein itself is all the way over on the east side.

    Make sure your very last hex placement is a green one. This is crucial because it'll activate the single colored hex needed to make the dungeon appear.

    Good news: you don't need to move away from the elevator or fight any battles to get this done.

    Once the Dakota Vein entrance is open, you'll need to head back to Level 4. Visit Ellis at the Cafe Chelsey to report in and complete the mission.

  • There aren't many treasures to find in the Dakota Vein itself during this mission, mostly just various apparel items. Don't expect to find a Bezel Shard here either.
  • Secret Gun Alert! If you're feeling up for a challenge after completing Ellis's request, you can dive into the Dakota Vein to find a really sweet Machinegun: the PDW-XN.V2. It's hidden in a separate section, so you can tackle it later when you're ready. Be warned, though: the toughest enemy in there is a Level 50 Sledgehammer, and you'll have to fight through 9 rooms to reach the final hex where the gun is located.
