Complete the Spikemuth Gym challenge in pokemon sword and shield, including battles against Team Yell Grunts and Gym Leader Piers. Learn weaknesses and rewards.
- To obtain a Kantonian Mr. Mime, you need an Obstagoon. You can catch a Galarian Linoone in Bridge Field (Wild Area) and level it up during nighttime to evolve it.
Walkthrough
- 1Battle the first Team Yell Grunt who uses a Level 42 Galarian Linoone (Normal/Dark). It is weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy types, with a double weakness to Fighting. Avoid physical attacks if you cannot achieve a one-hit KO, as it may use Counter.
- 2Continue east and trigger a battle with another Team Yell Grunt who uses a Level 42 Thievul (Dark). Be wary of Sucker Punch.
- 3After passing more houses, two Grunts will attack.
- 4Battle the next Team Yell Grunt who uses a Level 42 Scrafty (Dark/Fighting). This Pokémon takes 4x damage from Fairy and 2x damage from Flying and Fighting. Beware of Swagger, which can boost your Pokémon’s Attack and cause confusion.
- 5After the battle, pick up the nearby Max Revive.
- 6Continue through several house blocks until you encounter another Mr. Mime. Turn around to trigger a battle with a Team Yell Grunt who uses a Level 43 Weavile (Dark/Ice). Weavile takes 4x damage from Fighting and 2x damage from Fire, Rock, Bug, Steel, and Fairy. It can use Ice Shard and Metal Claw.
- 7Proceed further until rubble blocks the street. Enter the building above and pass through it to the east.
- 8Halfway through the building, the final pair of Grunts will confront you. This is a Double Battle against a Team Yell Grunt and Gym Trainer Joshua. They use a Level 43 Liepard (Dark) and a Level 43 Drapion (Poison/Dark). Liepard can use Taunt. Drapion is weak to Ground and Steel-types can defend well against its Poison-type moves.
- 9Exit the building through the doorway on the right. You will find Marnie. After she addresses Team Yell, head towards the courtyard.
- 10In the top-left corner of the courtyard, a Grunt will offer to trade his Kantonian Mr. Mime for your Obstagoon. This is the only way to obtain an original Mr. Mime until Pokémon Home is available.
- 11Approach the crowd to the right to trigger the Gym Leader battle against Piers.
- 12Gym Leader Piers's Pokémon:
- Level 44 Scrafty (Dark/Fighting): Weak to Fairy (4x), Fighting, and Flying (2x). Can use Fake Out and has the Intimidate ability.
- 13Level 45 Malamar (Dark/Psychic): Weak to Bug (4x) and Fairy (2x). Its Contrary ability reverses stat changes. Can use Foul Play.
- 14Level 45 Skuntank (Dark/Poison): Weak to Ground (2x). Steel-types are a good defensive option. Watch out for Toxic and Sucker Punch. Its Aftermath ability damages on contact KO.
- 15Level 46 Obstagoon (Normal/Dark): Weak to Fighting (4x), Bug, and Fairy (2x). Can use Obstruct.
- 16Note that neither you nor your opponent can Dynamax or Gigantamax during this battle because Spikemuth lacks a power spot.
- 17After defeating Piers, you will receive his Dark Badge and a Dark Uniform.
- 18Back at the entrance, you will be given TM85 Snarl.
- 19You will then be taken to Route 8, outside the main entrance to Spikemuth. Leon will appear and run ahead.
- 20Prepare yourself and head west to the Route 9 Tunnel.
