Under the Difficulty menu, uncheck "Auto-level New Companions" and check "No Knockout Injuries" and "Show Personality / Reputation". The "Show Personality / Reputation" option is crucial for Priests or Paladins to manage dispositions.

Outside of scripted sequences (non-interactive slides with menu choices), all checks are made against your PC's (player character's) skills and attributes. Prioritize equipping gear that boosts your PC's attributes and skills.

To pass critical checks past the halfway point, aim for a +8 bonus to an attribute of choice through: +3 Stronghold resting bonus, +3 from gear, and +2 from a prostitute.

Invest 6 ranks in Lore and 6 ranks in Survival to pass the majority of skill checks.

A value of 5 in Athletics is sufficient for most scripted sequence checks.

Allocate some points in Stealth for all party members and consider Survival a better overall skill for spare points than Lore.

Designate a party member as a Mechanics specialist with 12 ranks (they need 14, with the remainder from gear or resting bonuses). Avoid making your PC the Mechanics specialist, as skill points are better invested in Lore, Survival, and Athletics.

For Wizards (PC or companion), pay attention to which spells can be learned from grimoires (spellbooks) and when. For example, Confusion can be learned from a grimoire shortly after reaching 4th-level spells, so it may not be necessary to select it as a level-up spell. Kalakoth's Minor Blights may not be learnable from a grimoire until late in the game unless you choose a specific faction.

Spells like Pull of Eora (level 4), Form of the Helpless Beast (level 5), and most 8th-level spells cannot be learned from grimoires.

To acquire all spells, you can use the respec (respecification) feature: learn spells, scribe them into spare grimoires, respec again, and learn them. This is costly but can result in significant in-game currency by the end of the game.

If undecided on a class, choose Fighter for a balance of damage output and survivability.

Roughly halfway through the game, soulbound weapons become available. While powerful, consider upgrading weapons like Tidefall (great sword), The Hours of St. Rumbault (great sword), Tall Grass (pike), Bittercut (sabre), Cladhaliaith (spear), and Rod of Pale Shades, as they can be obtained early and are highly effective.

Weapons with powerful on-crit effects (Stun or Prone) are excellent candidates for upgrading with Refined Durgan Iron to increase critical hit rate. Tall Grass is a worthwhile upgrade even with the two-ingot cost for two-handed weapons.

On-hit or on-crit effects become AoE (area of effect) for a Barbarian with Carnage or a Wizard with Blast.

You can upgrade a total of three weapons (or one one-handed and one two-handed weapon) to Superb quality. Top candidates include Cladhaliaith (spear), Wē Toki (battle axe), and Godansthunyr (war hammer).

The Vulnerable Attacks talent is beneficial for armor and shields that damage attackers, as well as for low-damage attacks like shield bashes and Fire Godlike PC Burn damage.

Slayer enchantments and Bane talents are effective against specific enemy types. Kith Slaying is particularly useful against enemy wizards, priests, and barbarians.

To achieve The Storied Adventurer trophy, focus on increasing your stronghold's Prestige. Initially, prioritize Security rank upgrades and hirelings until a Minor adventure is unlocked. Then, build upgrades and hirelings that increase Prestige. Completing the Endless Paths dungeon also increases Prestige by 8.

Beat three optional superbosses: Terror of the White March, The Siege of Crägholdt, and Among the Moss and Peat.
