The Echoing Void — Pathways into Darkness Walkthrough

You are a U.S. Army Special Forces member sent to stop an ancient godlike being from awakening and destroying Earth. Your mission is to enter a pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula, reach the bottom, and detonate a nuclear device to stun the Dreaming God.

Your parachute failed, separating you from your team and leaving you with only a flashlight and survival knife. Your team entered hours ago, leaving behind monsters created by the slowly waking god, who will fully awaken in five game days.

Gameplay blends first-person shooter, RPG, and survival horror elements. You'll fight monsters, solve puzzles, and converse with dead individuals via a magic yellow crystal to gain information.

Conversations with the dead provide puzzle clues, monster strategies, and story details. Type keywords into a dialogue box to get responses; unrecognized keywords will prompt a question. All dead individuals respond to "dead" and "name".

Combat requires careful strategy. Monsters respawn, ammo is scarce, you are often under-equipped, and you move at the same speed as monsters. Health is regained by resting (risky) or rare blue potions. You start with a Walther P4 handgun and a survival knife.

Items found in the pyramid grant points, which increase health. Items include weapons (some with multiple ammo types), crystals (with unique powers that recharge and eventually shatter, except the unlimited yellow crystal), potions (offering temporary effects like invincibility or time slowing), miscellaneous items for puzzles or inventory, and treasure that increases score and health.
