How to Beat The Elder Phantasm

Conquer the Elder Phantasm in Pathways into Darkness. Understand its spectral blast and teleportation tactics to overcome this difficult boss.

Location:

Typically encountered in the deeper levels, such as the Chamber of the Sleeping God, often guarding critical paths or items.

Phases & Attacks:

• Phase 1 (Spectral Blast): The Elder Phantasm floats erratically, firing slow-moving spectral projectiles that deal moderate magical damage.
• Phase 2 (Teleportation): It frequently teleports around the room, making it difficult to track and hit.
• Phase 3 (Summon Minions): At lower health, it will summon several regular Phantasms to distract you.

Weaknesses:

The Elder Phantasm is highly resistant to conventional bullets. Its primary weakness is magical damage, especially the Fireball and Lightning Bolt spells. The M-16 can be used for sustained damage if you have ample ammunition, but spells are more efficient.

Strategy:

Prioritize mana regeneration before this fight. Use the Shield spell to reduce incoming damage from its spectral blasts. When it teleports, quickly re-acquire your target and unleash Fireballs. If it summons minions, use a wide-area spell like Lightning Bolt or a few Shotgun blasts to clear them quickly, then refocus on the Elder Phantasm. Don't let it overwhelm you with its summoned allies. Keep moving to avoid its projectiles. Defeating it often yields a Greater Mana Potion or a rare Ancient Scroll.
