Learn how to defeat the Great Baggi in Monster Hunter Rise. Discover its weaknesses, attack patterns, and strategies to overcome this early-game monster.

You encounter Great Baggi early in your hunting career in Monster Hunter Rise, and it shouldn't pose too many problems, especially at Low Rank. This is likely your second Large Monster hunt, and Great Baggi is similar to Great Izuchi. Its hunt revolves around its Tranquilizing Fluid, which it spits out at regular intervals. Getting hit by this will cause you to fall asleep, leaving you open to follow-up attacks. Learning the tell for this attack will reveal openings to exploit.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Parts: Head
  • Elements: Fire, Water, Electric
  • Ailments: Paralysis, Blast, Exhaust

Phases:

  1. Ram: Great Baggi winds up before launching itself at you. This attack is faster when enraged.
  2. Bite: Great Baggi lunges forward for a quick bite, dealing light damage.
  3. Sleep Fluid: Great Baggi spits sedative venom that causes sleep. Use an Energy Drink when hit or block with a shield to avoid the Sleep effect.
  4. Sweep: Great Baggi approaches with its head held high and attempts to sweep you, causing knockback. This attack is more frequent when enraged or if you are asleep.
  5. Tail Spin: Great Baggi swings its tail in a wide arc, often twice in a row. This deals minor damage.

Strategy:

  • Consider bringing resistance to Sleep or Energy Drinks to counter Great Baggi's Sleep Attack.
  • Weapons with the Fire Element deal the greatest damage; Water and Thunder are also effective.
  • Regular Baggi's often accompany Great Baggi and can use Sleep Attacks. Deal with them first or let your Palicos and Palamutes handle them. Be aware that Great Baggi howling signals an incoming wave of two to three more Baggi's.
  • Great Baggi's attacks are not overly damaging outside of the Sweep, but it is agile. Evade or block its attacks. Weapons with shields can block most attacks, including the Sleep Attack, though avoiding it is preferable.
  • Attacking from the front triggers Bite and Tail Spin attacks more frequently. Attacking from the side triggers the Ram attack.
  • The head is Great Baggi's weak point. Breaking the head exhausts the monster, slowing it down.
