Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Machines guide covering Scout Bots, Flight Drones, Tanks, Turrets, and Psy-bots. Learn where to find and how to scan each.

Machines in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond:

Scout Bot

There is one Scout Bot in each sector. These robots are about a meter tall and partially buried in the dirt. They remain inactive until shot with the Thunder Shot. After being shot, scanning them will place a marker on your (HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)) minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen) for every item you have yet to claim. Scout Bots are located in the following areas:

  • Fury Green - Ancient Path, in the center of the room
  • Volt Forge - Tower 2 Generator, off to the left side as you enter (opposite the Psychic Boost Rail)
  • Sol Valley - Southwest corner, just west of the Volt Forge entrance. Requires Psychic Platforms to reach an "island".
  • Flare Pool - Lava Lake Bridge, in the southeast corner.
  • Ice Belt - Snowfield, near the wreckage on the south side of the field
  • Great Mines - Main Shaft - Level 3, just east of the elevator shaft itself in a corner

Flight Drone

These are small flying robots. You will first encounter a cloud of them in Tower 1 Generator. They generally leave you alone and can be shot down for health or ammo.

Flight Drone MCU - ONE-SHOT

This is a mini-boss fought in the Tower 2 Generator of Volt Forge. A second Flight Drone MCU will appear on a future visit to Volt Forge, but you can only scan it the first time you defeat it.

Light Maintenance Tank

These Tank variants are smaller and faster than regular tanks, and they charge into you. You will first find them in Ice Belt, in Medical Bays Access, and later in the Deep Archive.

Heavy Maintenance Tank - ONE-SHOT

This is a mini-boss fought in the Entry Bay in Flare Pool.

Lamorn Beam Turret

These turrets have quick draw and solid accuracy. They do not take much damage and can be defeated more easily with an Ice Shot or a Thunder Shot. After hitting them with a Thunder Shot, you can use the Psychic Lasso to pull and destroy them. They are first found in Volt Forge, Tower 2, in Processing, and also appear in Flare Pool.

Psy-bot Soldier

These security drones are encountered in Volt Forge and Flare Pool. The first encounter is just outside Volt Forge. The Soldier variant hovers in place, darting between locations. It attacks with a focused ray, and if you get too close, it may drop to the ground and emit a small shockwave. Psy-bots have a common weak point on their head. Using the Ice Shot can help by dragging them to a halt, making it easier to target their head.

Psy-bot Shield

This variant is equipped with a shield and typically attacks by lowering the shield and charging at you. The first one is fought in Volt Forge, Tower 2, in the Storage room, but only on your second visit there. The first time you fight it, you must shoot it in the back. Once you have the Grapple Lasso, you can use it to pull the shield from its grip. Its main weapon is a cannon that fires pulses.

Psy-bot Shocker

First faced in Flare Pool, in the Entry Bay, these are distinguished by their armored legs and red lighting during attacks. They focus on jetting around and slamming the ground to generate shockwaves. Their head is a weak point. If you miss the first scan, they can reappear in the Subobservation Room.

Psy-bot Teleporter

First faced in Volt Forge, Tower 2, in the Storage room during your first visit. They teleport frequently, making them difficult to target. They attack with an "x beam" from a distance and can teleport next to you to perform a spinning blade attack, both of which deal heavy damage. Launching a Control Beam to steer it into the bot will stun it, allowing for follow-up attacks and scanning.

Psy-bot Gunner

First faced in Flare Pool, Control Room Bridge, recognizable by their large shoulders. They plant themselves and launch seeking projectiles that track Samus. These projectiles can be shot in the air while focusing fire on the bot's head. If you miss the first scan, they can reappear in the Subobservation Room.

Mecha Rat

These small, relatively harmless crawlies are found in Volt Forge, first appearing in the Loading Airlock and also in places like the Irradiation Floor. They cause a small amount of damage on contact and are destroyed with a single beam shot.

Xelios

This is the boss of Volt Forge. If you miss scanning Xelios, you can find it again in the Sanctum of the Guardians in Fury Green.

Aeronaut

Found in Sol Valley, typically after acquiring the Ice Shot. These mechanized flyers roam the desert and drop bombs on Samus. Dodge the bombs and target them with projectiles.

Tips
  • Scanning enemies like the Flight Drone MCU, Heavy Maintenance Tank, and various Psy-bot variants the first time you encounter them is crucial, as some may not be available for scanning later.
  • The Ice Shot can be very effective against mobile enemies like Psy-bot Soldiers, freezing them in place for easier targeting.
  • The Psychic Lasso can be used to pull and destroy Lamorn Beam Turrets after hitting them with a Thunder Shot.
  • For Psy-bot Teleporters, using the Control Beam to stun them is the most effective way to get a scan and deal damage.
  • Remember that headshots are a common weak point for many Psy-bot variants.
