EXTREME DIFFICULTY MODE

Ready for the ultimate Metal Gear Solid challenge? Learn how to unlock Extreme Difficulty mode and prepare for the radar-less, tougher enemies that await.

Alright, so you've beaten Metal Gear Solid once and you're looking for the real test, huh? You've found the right place. Extreme Difficulty mode is where the game really makes you earn it. To even get a shot at it, you'll need to have finished the game on any of the easier settings first. Once you've done that, just head back to the main menu, and you should see the option to select Extreme difficulty pop up.

Now, the biggest change you're going to notice right away is that your trusty radar is completely gone. Yep, no more mini-map showing you where everyone is. You're going to have to rely on your eyes and ears a lot more, which makes sneaking around way more intense. Enemies are tougher, they spot you faster, and they don't mess around. It's a whole different ballgame.

This section also includes a bunch of Gameshark codes for the US version. While these aren't part of the 'intended' Extreme difficulty experience, they can be super helpful if you just want to experiment or get a feel for the game without the brutal challenge. You can essentially give yourself any item, infinite health, or even walk through walls. Use them wisely if you decide to dabble!
