A guide to ammo for various weapons in Metal Gear, including tips on using the FA MAS, Sniper Rifle, Stinger Missile Launcher, and more. Learn how to manage your arsenal effectively.

This section details ammo management and weapon usage for various armaments in Metal Gear. It also includes a walkthrough of specific segments of the game.

Wolf Area Tip: Equipping Sniper Wolf's scarf will pacify the wolves, preventing them from attacking you.

UNDERGROUND PASSAGE

After collecting items, return to the area where you fought Sniper Wolf. Snake will have a flashback of Meryl being shot, and the Codec team will offer encouragement. Proceed through the passageway to the door you couldn't enter before. With the correct card, enter the door and proceed down the hallway, turning left and going through the next door.

You will encounter cameras and guards. Quickly equip the FA MAS to eliminate the first two guards. Pick up the Rope and stun grenades nearby. You will then need to ascend a large tower while being pursued by guards from both directions.

Tips for the Tower Ascent:

  • Keep moving at all times to avoid being caught by pursuing guards.
  • Watch for guards ahead as well as behind you.
  • For an easier run, you can remove all weaponry and use hand-to-hand combat. Pressing the fire key when facing an enemy will cause Snake to throw them, potentially knocking out other guards.
  • If you have the Bandana (unlocked after completing the game once), you can use stun grenades to clear a path or equip the FAMAS and fire while running to take down enemies.

Continue upwards. You will reach a jammed door that Otacon explains is blocked by ice. You must proceed to the top of the tower. On the final floor, ignore the ladder to the roof for now and head to the opposite end to find missiles and a ration. Then, quickly ascend the ladder to the roof.

COMMUNICATION TOWERS

On the roof of Communication Tower A, proceed through the door to reach the small room. You are now on the roof of Tower A and need to reach Tower B via a bridge. However, Liquid Snake in a chopper will destroy the bridge and an antenna dish, trapping you.

Use the Rope item and head to the corner of the roof to repel down the side of the tower. During the descent, avoid Liquid's gunfire and steam from pipes. To avoid gunfire, repel further down. To avoid steam, wait for it to subside before landing, then quickly move to the next safe spot. You will land on a narrow bridge.

If you wish to return through the door you came from, use C4 to blow it open. On the other side of the bridge, you will find a ration and some missiles or ammo. Be aware of guards on the other side of the bridge who can shoot you. To eliminate them, use the Sniper Rifle (each guard may require two hits) or the Nikita missile.

Once the guards are eliminated, proceed across the bridge. Liquid Snake will appear and shoot at you; avoid him and turn left. Enter the door at the end of the bridge. In the small room, acquire the STINGER MISSILE LAUNCHER and its ammunition.
