Learn how to navigate the Blast Furnace in Metal Gear, defeat guards, and destroy the crane to clear the path forward. Essential tips for this section!

Alright, you've made it through the stairs and you're now in the blast furnace area. First things first, take out the lone guard chilling here. Once he's down, check out the far left side of the room. You'll see a narrow ledge that looks like it leads somewhere, but there's a moving crane in the way that's going to be a real pain.

After you've dealt with the guard, it's time to get rid of that crane. Equip your Stinger or Nikita missiles and fire two shots at it. That should be enough to bring the whole thing crashing down, clearing your path. There's an elevator nearby that could also get you across, but surprise, surprise, it's not working right now. Can't say I'm shocked.

With the crane out of the way, head back to the left side of the area you're in. Stick close to the wall and carefully cross over the narrow catwalk. Since the crane is gone, there's nothing else blocking your way now. Make your way across to the other side.

Once you reach the new area, head north on your screen. You'll see some stairs leading down to the main floor of the furnace. Be careful here, as there's sometimes a guard patrolling the stairs. Take him out, then head down. Right after the stairs, you'll see a big door on the north wall and a smaller opening on the south wall.
