Walkthrough
- 1After the initial event, hit the red "TEST FIRE" button. Immediately move to a corner next to one of the two doors to avoid rocket damage. The tentacles will be burned.
- 2Return to the rocket firing chamber and pick up the pistol dropped by the guard near the explosives room.
- 3Use the ladders to descend to the bottom floor of the firing chamber.
- 4Locate the pit in the center and climb down the ladder found within.
- 5Quicksave, then crouch-walk carefully along the slanty ground, dropping gently when necessary, until you reach section c1a4g.
- 6Section c1a4g: MOVING ON PAST THE FIRING CHAMBER
- 7After a minor drop, you will face a major drop into a pool of water. Aim for the center of the water to avoid instant death.
- 8Exit the water and approach the green toxic spill area to find a .357 Magnum and ammo. Look for another ammo box on the opposite side of the pool.
- 9Position yourself to look down into the pool and spot two round holes below. Dive down and enter the hole on the right.
- 10Move forward and up to emerge on a platform with a ladder. If you need health or armor, use the stations below, then return to the platform.
- 11Get onto the large brown pipe to the left of the ladder platform and follow it.
- 12Drop onto lower pipes and move along them until you can turn right and drop to an even lower pipe.
- 13Run along this pipe until you can jump to a larger pipe with a gap, a valve wheel, and an open hatch.
- 14Use the valve wheel to close the pipe gap (lean on the "Use item" key until it stops moving).
- 15Carefully crouch-drop onto the ladder in the open hatch and climb down to avoid health loss.
- 16After jumping over the large hole in the pipe segment, crouch-walk through a small fencing hole.
- 17Continue down the pipe until section c1a4j loads.
- 18Section c1a4j: WEAK PIPE AND TRIPMINES
- 19After turning a corner, you will reach a large discolored pipe segment that ends in a fence. Walking onto this segment will cause it to break.
- 20Lean on the "Move backward" key as you slide down the pipe to minimize health damage. This may require multiple attempts.
- 21If you don't land on the table, quickly jump onto it to crush the headcrab underneath. This also yields .357 ammo and potentially health.
- 22Bash all crates in the room to find more health packs and five unset tripmines.
- 23Move down the corridor past the room to reach the start of the "Power Up" chapter.
Tips
- The tripmines found in section c1a4j will be useful in the next chapter.
- In the Source version of the game, laser tripmines can be used to skip the gargantuan encounter in the next chapter by strategically placing them to cross a barricade.
- When dealing with the vortigaunts near the flame pipe, quicksave before attempting to lure them into the flames, and be prepared to quickrestore if they survive.
