    Sprint across the dry canal to the slippery ramp. Use the (crowbar) to (blow) down the ramp, then sprint left over the heap of junk and jump to the narrow ledge.

    Sprint along the ledge to the planks, then to the railing. Jump and crouch over the railing and drop to the (Xen Portal) (XP), (crowbar) the board, grab and toss the barrel, then stand and pass through the (Xen Portal) (XP).

    If you are moderately damaged, find the cache below and heal. Otherwise, ignore it.

    At the two slippery ramps, grab a tire. Move to the left side of the ramp and toss the tire at the leftmost tongue. Slide down against the left wall of the ramp, turn left, and jump off the side of each ramp.

    Sprint to the (Xen Portal) (XP). Open it as the chopper salvo ends, then sprint left to the (Exit Portal) (EP).

    Next is the refugee depot. Grab and take the two (Energy Barrels) (EBS) with you. Approach and grab barrel #1, hold it low, then slam it into the right side of the crates to push them left.

    Drop barrel #1 and back off a foot. Move to barrel #1, which is against the vertical board. (Crowbar) the board, pick up barrel #1, and bring it into the corner left of the depot (Exit Portal) (EP).

    (Crowbar) the boards blocking the (Exit Portal) (EP), then retrieve barrel #2 and place it beside the depot's (Xen Portal) (XP).

    Run to and climb the ladder beside the (Exit Portal) (EP), then jump to the planks spanning from the ledge to the platform. Locate the (Supply Crate) (SB) then drop off near the depot's (Exit Portal) (EP).

    Take a step or two through the (Exit Portal) (EP), perform a (180-degree turn), and target the (Energy Barrel) (EB) at the (Xen Portal) (XP).

    When the door bursts open from (Combine Soldiers) (MHs), send three rapid-fire rounds into (Energy Barrel) #2.

    Retrieve (Energy Barrel) #1 and continue through the sewer. (Blast jump) (BH) to the closed gate. (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) will quickly swarm the gate. Place (Energy Barrel) #2 close, but not against the gate. If (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) hit it, you die.

    Wait for at least two (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) to be near and/or bouncing off the gate. Send two rounds into the (Energy Barrel) and retreat to safety after a count of two.

    Move to and through the gate. Have the (crowbar) ready if one of the (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) survived. Swing at it as you run the tunnel to the end.

    Switch to your pistol and put two rounds into the (Energy Barrel) at the corner. Switch back to the (crowbar) if the (Combine Soldier) (MH) is still active and swat it as you retreat to (cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects)) past the wall buttresses (concrete posts).

    If the (Combine Soldier) (MH) is still active after the (Energy Barrels) (EBs) explode, ignore it. Sprint and (Blast jump) (BH) through the tunnel to the next (Xen Portal) (XP).

    Move the barrel, open the gate, enter, and (crowbar) the pallet, then run off the ledge.

Send three rapid rounds into it when the (Antlion Guard) (POS) is about to land, then drift left or right around the body to avoid picking up the (Submachine Gun) (SMG) and (Battle Grand) (BG) (Line of Fire) (LOF).

    Reload as you drift out of the (Line of Fire) (LOF) and then move back into it.

    Continue running at the two (Antlion Guards) (POS) in the next section. Aim for the heads and fire until both drop.

    Run over the (Submachine Guns) (SMGs) and continue to and through the water wheel. Rise up out of the water, switch to your pistol, and run to the pipe.

    Ignore the (probe) if it comes out to play; with the current path and speed, it hasn't been around. Run under the pipe to side #2, run left, (zoom), and head for the light.

    Headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill) the (Antlion Guard) #1 as he lands on the pipe, then reload and (exit zoom) as you slide under the pipe to side #1 and (Antlion Guard) #2.

    Jump up the steps to the right of the (barnacle). Continue to ignore the (probe) if it shows up and access the (Supply Crate) (SC). Toss the barrel out of the way if needed, then jump to the pipe.

    Run to the steamy end of the pipe. As usual, dismount from the right side of the pipe but continue past the barrels to the middle of the pipe's elbow.

    Jump onto and over the pipe to the cache, then from the cache corner, jump back onto the pipe and face the two steam vents.

    As soon as vent #1 stops spewing, sprint over both vents. If the (Combine Soldier) (MH) freed itself, (crowbar) it. If not, bust the boards blocking the (Xen Portal) (XP).

    (Crowbar) the boarded (Xen Portal) (XP) from the left, only enough boards to slip through, then drop off the pipe. Two left vertical and one horizontal board.

    Locate the cache; there's (ammo), (health), and a (Supply Crate) (SB). Ignore the (Combine Soldier) (MH) and backtrack to the dark, low, and narrow sewer drain opening near the busted boards.

    As soon as possible, sprint toward the truck ahead at street level. Sprint right and then right again into the narrow tunnel opening. Dip in for a walkover and continue along the tunnel toward the (Xen Portal) (XP) gate.

    Go (full throttle) (FL) on as you pass niche #2, then sprint to the gate.

    Sprint to and up the steps and to the duct grate. Slam into it, crouch, and smack it clear.

Tips
  • The method described for the sewer gate saves time and damage. The two-count may keep the (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) close to the gate due to a visual on Gordon.
  • In Half-Life 2: Update (HL2ud), four to six (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) advance on you as you enter the tunnel. Ignore them, (crowbar) your way through the debris, and follow the same procedure used in Half-Life 2.
  • When dealing with the (Energy Barrels) (EBs) near the sewer gate, place (Energy Barrel) #2 close but not against the gate. If (Combine Soldiers) (MHs) hit it, you die.
  • Do not exit the tunnel for any (ammo) dropped by the (Antlion Guards) (POS); it will call two more (Antlion Guards) (POS) to the fenced enclosure outside.
  • Unlike Half-Life 2, in Half-Life 2: Update (HL2ud), the two (Antlion Guards) (POS) that enter the fence enclosure may do so without you exiting the tunnel. This will cause back pain as you sprint along the top of the pipe to the venting steam.
  • A new, slightly faster route over the steam pipe was implemented on 11/30/16.
  • A new, faster route to and through flood rooms 1-3 to the rebel station was implemented on 11/6/16.
