Navigate Part 23 of Half-Life 2. Learn how to bypass gates, deal with turrets, and use the gravity gun effectively.
Walkthrough
- 1From the floor below, move left to the outer corner of the walkway. Crouch and target the edge of the left side of the gate. Deal with any Combine soldiers (ALs) that reach the barrier before passing through the gate.
- 2Pull a grenade (G), enter the commons room, and move to the left side of the now open experience (XP) gate.
- 3Toss grenade #1 past the gate to the turret behind the table. Once the turret is down, turn to the fence blocking the duct. Toss grenade #2 at the floor in front of the fence, about 1 foot from the left corner. This should move the fence out of the way and destroy the grate.
- 4Sprint to and enter the duct. In the fan room, use the plank, cinder block, or 5-gallon bucket to destroy the fan, then grab the cinder block.
- 5Past the fan, move into the next section of duct a foot or so, then use the gravity gun (GGP+) to propel the grate into the next room.
- 6Grab the block and continue along the duct until you have line of sight (LOS) on the Overwatch (OBG) crouched against the wall at your 11:00. Use GGP+.
- 7There may be up to 2 more Overwatch (OBGs) in the room or still in the missile (MGT) room. If this occurs, you have pulled the grate or block to you and used it on OBG #2. Creep out of the duct and check the block for BG #3 or the missile (MGTs). Tilt the missile (MGTs), pull the plug, and continue up the stairs to the next area.
- 8Halfway up the right side of the stairs, use the pulse (pod) on the area ahead past the doorway. Once the Combine soldiers (ALs) clear the low-water (LWMs) move to the side of the doorway.
- 9Switch to the combine (CB) and eliminate the near Combine soldier (BG) on the walkway, then any Combine soldiers (BGs) not killed by the Combine soldiers (ALs).
- 10Move to the middle of the room and use the pulse (pod) on the missile (MGT) on the mid-stair platform at the end of the room. This will clear the low-water (LWM) and end the Combine soldier (BG). If the Combine soldier (BG) that attempts to man the missile (MGT) isn't killed immediately by the Combine soldiers (ALs), eliminate him.
- 11Collect any ammunition (ammo) of value, specifically pulse (PBs), then locate the experience (XP), pull the pistol for the energy (EB) then use a grenade (G) on the 2 missile (MGTs) at the far side of the next room. Toss just to the right of the far experience (XP).
- 12When cleared, sprint to the stairwell, quick-scope (QS) to the gravity gun (GG) then use GGP-/+ on the Combine soldiers (MHs) that descend.
- 13Climb the stairs, shoulder the shotgun (SG), sprint to and stop a couple of feet before the experience (XP), send 1 round into the face of the Combine soldier (BG).
- 14Shoulder the combine (CB), crouch and side-step left onto the walkway. Use the combine (CB) on the near Overwatch (OBG) and then scope stand and use the combine (CB) on the missile (MGT) Overwatch (OBG) at the far end of the walkway.
- 15Switch to pulse (pods) and squeeze it repeatedly during your sprint to the missile (MGT). A few steps up the next flight of stairs, turn right and use pulse (pod) high on the corner of the wall, then send one or two past the corner and step down to allow the Combine soldiers (ALs) to pass.
- 16When you think they're about to finish off the 2 Overwatch (OBGs) past the corner, move to the top of the stairs, 180, and use pulse (pod) on the far walkway as 2-3 Overwatch (OBGs) appear.
- 17If there are 3, try to land the pulse (pods) on the middle Combine soldier (BG) to occupy all 3.
- 18Move to said walkway and use pulse (pod) on the walkway (Hlwy) with low-water (LWMs), then further along the path, use pulse (pod) ahead of the corner to remove 2 Overwatch (OBGs) under cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- 19Continue to the control room (CR) entry and use pulse (pod). Send a grenade (G) to the missile (MGT) in the control room (CR) closet.
- 20Use the weapon (WD), toss a couple of pulse (pods) at the sliding gate (XP) to position the Combine soldiers (ALs), then pull the lever, then use pulse (pod) past the recently opened experience (XP). Overwatch (OBGs) are approaching from the experience (XP) area and also from your previous path to the control room (CR).
- 21Concentrate on the experience (XP) and sprint straight past all the chaos to the next open area. If required, enter the small room and use the weapon (WD) then exit.
- 22Exit, round the control room (CR) and use pulse (pod) on the area ahead past the corner so the Combine soldiers (ALs) can remove the 3 Combine soldiers (BGs).
- 23Use pulse (pod) on the previous area to send the Combine soldiers (ALs) back far enough to give you time to remove the 2 missile (MGTs) at the far end of the next walkway and kill the low-water (LWM) too.
- 24Large Laundry Room:
- 25Wait for the Combine soldiers (ALs) to catch up to the Laundry room experience (EP). Pull a grenade (G) and toss it so it will land near enough to the missile (MGT) to tilt it, then sprint into the Laundry room.
- 26Sprint down the steps and right, hook right at the corner, then run to and jump over the railing to the narrow walkway (Hlwy).
- 27Sprint the walkway (Hlwy) and enter the small dim room on the left. Climb the stairs and pass through the experience (EP) to the small lighted room at the far left corner of the dim room.
- 28Quickly use the weapon (WD), pick up anything you can absorb, then exit. Hook hard right into the dim room, then jump from the top of the steps and over the laundry cart in the narrow walkway (Hlwy).
- 29While sprinting through the walkway (Hlwy), listen for and eyeball the known position of the missile (MGT). If it's still active, quick-scope (QS) to the gravity gun (GG) and use GGP- it as soon as you jump the railing.
- 30If the missile (MGT) is clear, switch to the shotgun (SG), then jump over the railing to return to the main Laundry room. Odds are at least 1-2 Combine soldiers (BGs) will be to your left on the raised platform and firing on you and/or the Combine soldiers (ALs). Both need to be eliminated promptly.
- 31When cleared, switch to the pulse (PR), climb the steps to your right and move tight to the wall. If a Combine soldier (BG) is still active on the walkway (Wkwy), use pulse (PR) on him, then switch to the shotgun (SG), remain tight to the wall and creep up the stairs.
- 32Keep a sharp eye on the fence above you and the walkway (Wkwy) at your 12:00 for Combine soldiers (BGs). Use rapid-fire (RT)/shotgun (SG) anything that shows its head.
- 33There are 7 missile (MGTs), 8 Overwatch (OBGs) and 4 low-water (LWMs) spread out between you and the Nova Prospekt exit.
- 34When you have the area behind the fence cleared, you're ready for the next area. See the energy (EB), use GGP- it before stepping into the room, then step out into the next room and use GGP+ it to the dark wall section between the lighted room and walkway (Hlwy), hopefully you'll take out both Combine soldiers (BGs).
- 35As soon as possible (ASAP), switch to the pulse (PR). If nobody's home, pull pulse (pods) and use pulse (pod) on the lighted area ahead with 2-3 pods.
- 36Switch to the pulse (PR) and follow the Combine soldiers (lads).
- 37Switch to the gravity gun (GG), use GGP-/+ on crates or barrels to trip the low-water (LWMs) in the next walkway (Hlwy). There's a Combine soldier (AL) spawning hole there.
- 38Then pull pulse (pods), squeeze it, then open the door to the room and use pulse (pod) on the Combine soldiers (BGs) inside.

Tips
- This section will take a bit of practice, so you might want to save your game first.
- You need to be able to reliably throw a grenade (G) to land close to the missile (MGT) to tilt it. Aim at the ceiling to the right of the column the Combine soldier (BG) is hiding behind on the upper walkway (Wkwy) on the left side of the Laundry room. If you aim between the column and the fire suppression system plumbing, the grenade (G) reliably comes to a stop close enough to the missile (MGT) to tilt it.
