Walkthrough

    Approach the window wall of the galley and drop to crouch. Clear the window at the right end to ignite leaking gas, causing a section of the galley to flame and tilt the nearby MGT (Manhack).

    Deal with two more MGTs at the far end of the galley. Use the partition between glass panels for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (protection from enemy fire) from MGTs #2 and #3. Toss a grenade (G) to both and listen for the tilt sound. If you don't hear both tilt, use a GGP (Gravity Gun) on a barrel for a shield.

    Once clear, use the barrel or an MGT to clear the LWM (Laser Tripwire) in the narrow aisle between the wall and serving counter.

    Past the serving counter, there are 2 BGs (Barnacle) and 2 MGTs at the top of the steps between the serving line and the sitting area. Pod (use the Gluon Gun) the far end of the narrow aisle and let the ALs (Antlions) clear the BGs.

    Work your way through the rooms to the control room. Toss a G up the stairs if you have one as you strafe left past the EP (Energy Projector), then switch to the SG (Shotgun) and rush the stairs for any survivors. If ALs are close by, do the same strafe move but toss a pod up the stairs instead.

    Alternatively, rush the stairs, RT/SG (rapid fire/Shotgun) the BG at the top, then hold in the crouch for the second BG to appear. Heal, pick through supplies, then jump out the window to the cafeteria.

    Go left, locate the XP (Exit Point), GGP-/+ whatever's in your way, and exit before the guardian appears.

    Make your way through the debris, jump off the right side of the platform to avoid the prone Z (Zombified Human).

    GGP+ the debris away from you but GGP- the crate to use as a step stool into the next area. Move quickly up, into, and through the small room to avoid the moving wall and the HC (Headcrab) lurking in the room.

    At the opening to the long drop to the rubble, quickly look to the wall to your right and down. Face the short shallow ledge a few feet below, then walk off and hold forward to drop to it, preventing damage.

    Drop through the hole in the floor and continue to the railway and Alyx.

3.10a. ALYX AT THE TRAIN TRACKS TO SWARM #2 AT THE CELL BLOCK

  1. Follow Alyx, trying to stay ahead of her to clear the OBGs (Oversized Barnacle Grunts).
  2. From the elevator, use the CB (Combine Ball) on the 2 distant BGs, then switch to the SMG (Submachine Gun) for #3 if Alyx hasn't ended him first.
  3. Past the SS (Security Station), sprint about 3/4s to the stairwell then left to the wall. Target the base of the stairwell EP and hold. BG#1 exits, and as BG#2 appears, send the HEG (HE Grenade). Stay ahead of Alyx.
  4. Pull a G as you sprint to and climb the stairs to the next floor, pass through the EP, then drift right into the corner opposite the EP. ASAP (As Soon As Possible) 180 and aim for the far left wall/ceiling interface and throw the G.
  5. ASAP switch to the SMG. BG#1 appears from the left Hlwy (Highway), and most often BGs #2 and #3 enter from the SS on the right. BG#4 often holds back past the Hlwy corner on the left. Try to send the HEG into the middle of the 3-man group.
  6. Follow Alyx to the next room and listen to her and Eli make dinner plans.

New tactic 3rd locked gate

  1. At gate #1, you'll find supplies above a vending machine.
  2. In the small room, GGP+ the shelves away from the wall to access the duct, which contains a couple of 3 HCs.
  3. GGP+ the grate away at the XP end to detonate an LWM below the duct. Pull the KB (Keycard) and retire the jumping spiders in the room below safely from the leading edge of the duct.
  4. Collect the Gs and ammo on the floor while Alyx unlocks gate #2.
  5. Switch to the PR (Pulse Rifle) then dip into the small room with the G chest to activate up to 8 BGs past your XP past gate #4 to your 4:00. Back out; position to the right end of the large tank closest to the XP to bait the approaching BGs.
  6. Let the approaching BGs see you, then move forward toward the wall corner and out of LOF (Line of Fire) as they begin to fire. Side step left as the gate begins to open and send a PB (Pulse Rifle) into the group.
  7. Toss a G off the left wall to end up at the MGTs to tilt them. After the tilt sign, toss another, then switch to SG and sprint the Hlwy along the left side toward the XP at the far end.
  8. Be ready to RT/SG anything as it appears from the XP. Assume all further BGs up to the MGTs to advance sooner than usual.
  9. If you don't get all BG charging you before you get to the Combine defense barrier, bounce a G off the wall in the barrier room to remove the 1 BG at the barrier, then RT/SG the rest as they appear.
  10. Crouch and Boo (use the Gravity Gun to throw objects) the XP. If you didn't get the previous bums rush, sometimes a BG is facing the wall to the right of the XP. Side step and RT/SG him, then step into the room.
  11. Regardless of the previous rush, 1 BG is always in the small room with the SS power. He'll exit for you; RT/SG.
  12. Replenish Gs, then toss one into the room to kill the SS. GGP+ the nearby MGT, then G the 2 at the far end of the corridor.
  13. Sprint to the end for the SC (Supply Crate) and PB, then head for the XP.
  14. Switch to the SG, run up to the top of the steps to the CR (Control Room), RT/SG the BG at the console before he turns on you, then back step down 1 time for cover.
Tips

  • Switch to the SG, run up to the top of the steps to the CR, RT/SG the BG at the console.
