Walkthrough for Half-Life 2 Part 37: Learn how to defeat the Combine Walker, navigate the elevator sequence, and progress through the Citadel's core.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Elevator Ascent: After facing Combine soldiers (OBGs), use the barrier to funnel enemies. Recharge at the Wall Dispensers (WDs). On the elevator, save your game and stay crouched in the center. Watch for advancing enemies and be prepared to catch or evade projectiles (PBs) and grenades (Gs). Exit at the last stop and clear any remaining enemies. Use the final WD before the large room.
  2. 2
Walker Combat Preparation: Enter the large room, move to the center of the ledge, and observe the enemy defenses.
  3. 3
Walker Combat - Wave 1: Sprint off the ledge, drift left, and use a pod as a shield before entering a narrow passageway. Continue left, find the next pod, and use it for cover. Target the buttress and pull all enemies (BGs) to you, then release them. Clear the first wave.
  4. 4
Walker Combat - Wave 2: Expose yourself to the second wave and repeat the previous tactic. After clearing wave 2, stand and face the Walker.
  5. 5
Walker Movement and Positioning: The Walker may move away or advance. If it moves away, sprint right towards the pod line and crouch. You are now in your First Person (FP) view. The Walker's FP is its closest approach. It may stand tall or crouch and sway. At its most distant position, it rarely fires.
  6. 6
Attacking the Walker: When the Walker is closest and standing tall, back up slightly to get a line of sight (LOS) on its head while maintaining cover. If it crouches, strafe left and back to send an Energy Ball (EB). Pull an energy ball from a stream, align your Gravity Gun (GG) reticle with the Walker's head, stand, fire, and crouch. Repeat 4-5 times until the Walker is destroyed. If it fires, wait for the salvo to end before standing.
  7. 7
Post-Walker: After the Walker is defeated, run to the Jumbotron, locate the Super Soldier (SS), and use your Gravity Gun to remove PBs from its stream.
  8. 8
Next Pod: Hop over the low wall, use the WD, and enter the next pod on the rail system. Ride it to the next confiscation field.
  9. 9
Dark Energy - New Approach: You are restrained in a pod with Eli and Alyx, while Breen monologues. Dr. Mossman frees you. Exit the elevator, go left, then right towards the sliding screen. Instead of waiting for it, run to the pillar on the left and jump onto the railing. The pillar prevents falling. Turn left and look down at the railing; it has extended and bent.
  10. 10
Jumping the Gap: At the railing intersection, there is a gap with no railing. Look straight down at the top of the railing and walk towards the corner. Stop when you can see the last pale before the corner and a small section of railing. Turn right to face the leading edge of the opposite railing. Aim for the gap and press sprint/jump. You should land on the opposite floor. Sprint up the ramp to plasma stream #1.
  11. 11
Core Ascension: Remove energy/plasma balls from the 3 mini streams to climb the central core device. Use PBs on gathering OBGs when possible. After the 3rd stream, pull OBGs from the platform above while waiting for and dropping onto the reciprocating column.
  12. 12
Continuing Upward: Once on the next level, move to the right of the SS. Use your Gravity Gun to send BG #1 into BG #2, then use it on BG #3. Sprint along the walkway to the next lift and ride it up to the central platform. Crouch after jumping over the glass railing, access the WD, and ride the next lift up. Sprint to and use your Gravity Gun on the 4 BGs entering from the SS. Sprint to the last reciprocating pillar and ride it up to the top.
  13. 13
Final Level: At the final level, position Gordon slightly behind and to the left of the leftmost energy stream for a clear shot at the central rotating doors.
Tips
  • Conserve ammunition and health by using the environment and enemy projectiles to your advantage.
  • Save frequently, especially before major engagements or tricky platforming sections.
  • Pay close attention to the Walker's attack patterns and movement to find openings.
  • The new Dark Energy approach allows for bypassing some initial combat.
