Master Part 25 of Half-Life 2 with our guide. Learn strategies for the Combine Prison, flooded rooms, and the Transporter Room, including enemy tactics and item usage.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon entering the Combine Prison (CR), use the Waste Disposal (WD) and position Manhacks (MGTs) at the corners and short walls, facing the access stairs. Crouch between the MGTs on the lee side of the CR walls. Target mid-platforms for headshots with the pistol. Be ready to use the Gravity Gun (GG) for Manhacks (MHs) or Grunts (Gs) that get too close. BGs often rush turrets. After the second MH, switch to the Shotgun (CB), turn 180 degrees, and run to the left side of the CR to the broken window. Wait to use the CB on the final BG appearing on the upper walkway (Wkwy). Alyx will appear shortly after.
- 2After Alyx drops the Shield (SS), proceed to the blocked Experience (XP) area, clear it, and use the Crowbar (KB) on encountered bugs. You will reach a flooded room with electrified water. Hop over the railing to the big pipes, switch to the KB, and use it on the two Headcrabs (HCs) unless they fall into the water or are caught by a Barnacle.
- 3Optional Tactics in Flooded Room:
- Tactic 1 (Preferred): After clearing HCs from the pipes, bypass the barnacle and jump directly to the leading end of the big horizontal pipes along the wall. Reposition on the low short pipe, face the big horizontal pipes, then run/sprint and jump to land on them. Walk to the lower pipe, around the elbow to the wall, face the railing across the water, then sprint/jump to the platform. If the barnacle is in the way, jump to its left. Walk to the lower platform and jump to the big horizontal pipes.
- 4Tactic 2 (Attaining XP Platform): Once on the big horizontal pipes, run and jump onto the two big pipes crossing over the main pipes. Stay tight to the wall, then side-step left to align the left crossover pipe's leading edge with the XP platform's leading corner edge. Look down at your feet to make the jump at the very edge of the crossover pipe to land on the XP platform mid-air without crouching. Alternatively, stay tight to the wall, run towards the XP steps, jump over the crossover pipes, and back up to the long pipes. Face the XP platform's leading corner, look down, and side-step left until aligned with the left broken pipe and the XP platform. Run/sprint, jump, and crouch mid-air to land on it.
- 5Enter the next room, go left into the bright room, use the WD, check the Security Consoles (SCs), and exit. Use the GG to move the crate away from the XP, switch to the SMG (SG), and sprint into the stairwell. Run two steps up and use the SG to shoot the advancing Z (Zombies) in the upper chest to neck area. Continue up the stairs to the XP, enter, and clear the XP blockage with the GG. Exit the small room, check the SC for items, and proceed up the left stairs to the second floor. Crouch before entering the opening to the cell block on the left.
- 6Clear the first three BGs from the upper left side. Deal with the two main floor BGs using the CB or revolver, and the Wkwy BG with the revolver. Check the small room on the second floor, then drop into the cell block.
- 7In the short, narrow supply hallway between the two lines of cell blocks, with your back to the dispenser wall, set up three MGTs: two at your 9:00 and one at your 3:00. Place the two at 9:00 in the middle of the room facing the East Perimeter (EP), and the one at 3:00 in the middle facing the 3:00 EP. Keep a finger over the quick switch button for random MHs or rarer Grunts (Gs).
- 8Back up to the WD wall and hold position. If a BG is seen to the left or right, use the SG or Pistol (PR) on it. After a lull, Alyx will appear above the 3:00 EP.
- 9Allow Alyx to lead the way to the double doors and Swarm #2. She may disappear or get stuck on stairs if you try to beat her there.
Tips
- Using the quick switch (QS) button for the Gravity Gun (GG) is crucial for quickly dealing with Manhacks (MHs) and Grunts (Gs).
- Experiment with positioning in the supply hallway: staying outside the stalls and near the WD wall seems to attract enemies faster and allows for better defense against MHs and Gs.
- When engaging enemies in the stairwell, aim for the upper chest to neck area for efficient kills with the SG.
- Be prepared for BGs to rush turrets.
- Alyx may disappear or get stuck if you try to reach the double doors before her.
Notes:
- Alyx may sometimes have neon bright red eyes.
- The author uses the 'F' key for quick weapon switches, but has since remapped the GG quick switch to a mouse button for faster access.
