Defeat Emerald Weapon in final fantasy vii. Learn how to get Underwater Materia to remove the 20-minute time limit and strategies like Knights of the Round spam.
Emerald Weapon is an optional boss found at the bottom of the ocean in final fantasy vii. To engage it, you must ram it with your submarine. The battle has a strict 20:00 time limit, after which it's an instant game over. This time limit can be removed entirely by obtaining the Underwater Materia.
- Submarine
- Ability to Morph enemies (Yuffie's Morph Materia recommended)
- Guide Book item
- Desert Rose item
- Earth Harp item
- 1To obtain the Underwater Materia, you first need a Guide Book. This can be obtained by Morphing a Ghost Ship enemy found in the glass underwater tunnel leading to Junon's Underwater Reactor. Ghost Ships can use their "Goannai" attack to remove a character from the fight, so be prepared. They can also appear in the Battle Arena, but the underwater tunnel is a more reliable location.
- 2Once you have the Guide Book, travel to Kalm, the town north of Midgar.
- 3In Kalm, find the house on the eastern side of town with an underground bar. Go upstairs and speak to the man who claims to be going on a pilgrimage.
- 4He will list the items he needs: a "Guidebook", a "Desert Rose", and an "Earth Harp".
- 5Speak to him again and trade the "Guidebook" for the Underwater Materia. This Materia removes the time limit for the Emerald Weapon fight.
- 6Prepare your party for the battle. The strategies below are just two of many possible ways to defeat Emerald Weapon.
- 7Ram Emerald Weapon with your submarine to initiate the fight.
Strategies for Defeating Emerald Weapon:
Knights of the Round Spam:
- This strategy is less inventive but effective, requiring Chocobo breeding for Knights of the Round Materia.
- Equip one character with Knights of the Round Materia, HP Absorb Materia, Mime Materia, and W-Summon Materia.
- At the start of the battle, have this character double-cast Knights of the Round.
- Have all other characters, equipped with Mime Materia, use Mime to replicate the attack.
- On the initial caster's next turn, have them Mime as well.
- Each character will Mime Knights of the Round twice per turn, healing for more HP than Emerald Weapon can inflict.
- Warning: If Emerald Weapon uses "Aire Tam Storm", it might wipe the party. To counter this, equip one character with Phoenix Materia + Final Attack Materia. If "Aire Tam Storm" kills them, Phoenix will revive the party.
- The casting time for Knights of the Round can be long, potentially causing you to run out of time if you don't have the Underwater Materia.
- To increase damage, consider pairing another Knights of the Round Materia or a Master Summon Materia with MP Turbo.
- Adding Mime + Counter Materia can cause characters to Mimic the last party action (double-casting Knights of the Round) when attacked, but this is often unnecessary.
- Weapons are not crucial for this method. Consider bringing your grinding party for the experience, AP, and Gil rewards. Cloud with Apocalypse and Cid with Javelin (or Scimitar) will benefit greatly.
- Emerald Weapon inflicts no status effects, so defensive accessories like Tough Rings or Circlets are preferable to Ribbons. Mystile armor is ideal; if you have three, use them. Ziedrich is a good alternative.
Command Materia Strategy:
- This strategy is faster but requires more grinding to set up.
- You will need three Master Command Materia, which requires mastering Deathblow, Manipulate, Mime, Sense, Steal, and Throw Materia three times each.
- You will also need three additional Mime Materia, three mastered Double Cut Materia, three mastered Counter Materia, and three HP Absorb Materia.
- Having 255 Attack is beneficial for this strategy.
Defeating Emerald Weapon yields a significant amount of experience points, ability points (AP), and Gil. It also drops valuable items and Materia.
