Climbing Gaeas Cliff

From Holzoff’s Cabin, head north to Gaea’s Cliff. Climb the initial slope to the first ledge.

To avoid passing out from the cold (body temperature falling to 26 degrees Celsius), warm yourself up on ledges. Movement replenishes body heat.

Climb the wall near the flag to reach another ledge, then repeat the process until you enter a cave.

Inside the cave, head north under an ice bridge and enter an artificial archway.

Go up stairs to the west and exit by running into an alcove in the south-western corner to return to the first area at a higher elevation.

Cross the ice bridge to the east and run through the eastern wall to find a small chamber with a chest containing a Ribbon.

Leave the chamber, head north along a ledge on the eastern end, cross another bridge, and loot a chest containing a Javelin (62 Attack, five Materia sockets, including two pairs of joined sockets, Double AP Growth).

Exit to the next area.

Cross a bridge to the north-west and proceed through caverns, navigating areas obscured by the foreground.

You will surface on higher ground to the north-west where a boulder is located. Push the boulder to clear ice blocking your path below.

Backtrack to the previous screen, then make your way down around the side of the chamber to return to the south-western corner of the screen you just left.

Continue north, then north-east past where the ice was, enter a cavern and loop around to the west while obscured by the foreground.

Follow the path north-east to reach another screen, then proceed east to exit the caverns and return to the cliffs.

On the outside of Gaea’s Cliff (Part 2), continue climbing ledges to keep your body temperature up.

Head west to find the first scalable cliff face. Keep going up when given the option to pick a direction, as the path to the right is a dead-end.

Climb to the next ledge, then head east to find another scalable section of cliff face.

On the next ledge, climb the western section of wall (marked with a flag).

On the final ledge in this area, climb to the east to reach another cave.

Inside this large chamber, find a chest containing an Elixir on the south-eastern end.

In the north-western corner, near some ledges, is a Save Point.

East of the Save Point is a pit with ice platforms leading to a cave entrance to the north. To the west is a chest that is currently inaccessible.

Go through a hole in the wall to the north-east to reach a snowy ledge outside.

Follow the winding, linear snowy path, which will take you behind the foreground at times.

You will enter a room with four large icicles. Run under them to trigger a fight with Evilheads (bats).

The icicles will use “Icicle Drop” and the Evilheads use “Ultrasound” (inflicts Silence). A single casting of “Beta” can defeat the bats and break the icicle.

Dislodge all four icicles, declining the option to jump down each time.

Loot the two chests on the ledge: the eastern one contains a Fire Armlet (four Materia sockets, two pairs of joined sockets, drains fire attacks) and the western one contains a Megalixir.

Return to the large cavern below. The fallen icicles now form platforms.

Use one of the icicle platforms to reach a chest to the north-west containing a Speed Sou.
