Final Fantasy VI: Sneak Past Soldiers in Vector

Alright, so you've made it to Vector! It's a town with a Monster Bestiary and shops, but be careful. The shops here aren't as good as Albrook's, and the Innkeeper is a bit of a thief – they'll try to take 1,000 Gil if you sleep there about half the time. It's a bit of a gamble, but they won't take your money if you have less than that amount.

Now, here's the tricky part: the soldiers on the north side of town will recognize you as a Returner and attack if you get too close. The eastern railway is blocked and leads to our next destination, the Magitek Research Facility. We need to get past those guards without starting a fight, because winning or losing against them sends you right back to the south side of town anyway.

Walkthrough

Where am I? You're in Vector, specifically near the eastern railway that leads to the Magitek Research Facility.

What do I see? Three soldiers are guarding the railroad. You'll also see a man behind a box.

What do I do? Talk to the man behind the box. He'll pretend to vomit to distract the soldiers. While he's doing that, you need to sneak past them using some rafters. Walk into the crates nearby, and you'll automatically jump on them and walk past the soldiers.

Why this way? If you try to fight the soldiers directly, you'll be sent back to the south side of town, regardless of the outcome. Sneaking is the only way to proceed without a setback.

Tips

Don't get too close to those soldiers after you've snuck past them, or you'll be sent back to the south side of town.
The Innkeeper is shady; only sleep there if you're willing to risk losing 1,000 Gil.
