Learn how to defeat the Giant Crab, your first boss in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Includes strategies, weaknesses, and tips for all three cycles.

Walkthrough:

  1. Follow the path until a Mu appears. Defeat it to get a key.
  2. Head south and use the key to open a gate. This serves as a shortcut.
  3. Go north and defeat all enemies in the area.
  4. Continue north and find a chest on a side path to the left.
  5. Return to the main path and proceed forward.
  6. Cross the bridge and you will see a blue sign.
  7. The sign indicates a moogle house to the right and extreme danger to the left. The moogles offer no information or items.
  8. Prepare for a tough fight and head left to face your first boss.

Boss: Giant Crab

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Recommended Spells: Holy magic, Fire magic (Fira, Fira), Blizzard, Gravity.
  • Ineffective Spells: Thunder, Slow, Stop.
  • Essential Spells: Cure, Phoenix Down (assigned to command list for instant revival).
  • Main Weapon: Deals very little damage, but a few hits can chip away at HP.

Phases:

  1. Initial Phase: The crab primarily uses Thunder. It charges magic before firing. Move to the side or back to dodge. It also spits bubbles that inflict Slow but vanish quickly. If you get in front, it uses a fire blast that causes damage and temporary paralysis. It may jump and crash down; keep moving to avoid this.
  2. Mu Appearance: Occasionally, a Mu will emerge. Attack it when the crab charges Thunder to avoid taking extra damage.
  3. Claw Swipe: A simple melee attack that is easy to avoid.
  4. HP Threshold (1/3): The crab loses its claws and switches Thunder for Thundara. Thundara has a wider radius, deals more damage, and causes longer paralysis. Avoid it and continue your attack pattern.
  5. Cycle Two: The crab may be slightly stronger, but the attacks remain the same.
  6. Cycle Three: The crab replaces Thundara with Thundaga, which covers almost the entire arena, does heavy damage, and causes serious paralysis. Run as far away as possible when it charges. Resistance to thunder attacks is recommended.

Strategy:

  • Combine spells like Fira and Blizzara for best results.
  • Attack from the side or back, especially when the crab charges Thunder.
  • If your HP is low, cast Cure on yourself while the crab charges Thunder.
  • Attack again after the crab uses its fire blast, as it hesitates briefly.
  • When the crab uses Thundara or Thundaga, focus on evasion and repeat your attack pattern.
  • For the third cycle, ensure you have thunder resistance.

Tips:

  • Having eight characters on your memory card, each with a different job, unlocks all shops in Tipa, making the game much easier. Create seven additional characters with unique jobs if you don't have them.
  • Visit the Merchant in Tipa to check for items and the Blacksmith to forge better equipment.
  • There is nothing else to do in Tipa at this moment, so you can leave.
