Detailed Fallout 2 walkthrough for the Enclave Military Base: defeat wolves, rats, super mutants, and Melchoir, find the Gauss Pistol, and uncover F.E.V. secrets.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Begin by killing the surrounding wolves with melee weapons. Scout the tents for energy cells, rockets, and a holodisc detailing the Enclave's acquisition of F.E.V.
  2. 2
To enter the base, pick up a pole and place it on a mine cart. Go north to a shack, pick the lock, and take a stick of dynamite. Place the dynamite on the cart without setting the timer and push it to blow open the rock pile, creating an entrance.
  3. 3
Inside the base, examine the Enclave trooper corpses for plasma grenades, melee energy weapons, radios, and a holodisc. Head left and kill the rats. Use Science and Repair skills to fix the generator for experience.
  4. 4
Explore the first level, killing all critters. Proceed to the second level, where you'll face super mutants with heavy weaponry. If you have powered armor from Navarro, use it. Otherwise, find and equip the standard T-51b powered armor. Loot Enclave corpses for more grenades and a holodisc.
  5. 5
On the third level, defeat tougher super mutants wielding energy weapons. Examine Enclave trooper corpses for loot.
  6. 6
Prepare for the fourth level, the most challenging. Melchoir guards this area, surrounded by F.E.V. remnants. He can throw grenades that spawn deathclaws, fire geckos, floaters, and mutated molerats. For a quick win, kill Melchoir directly. To maximize experience, kill his spawned critters first until he runs out.
  7. 7
The footlocker contains the PPK12 Gauss Pistol and a holodisc. Take these items and exit the base for Navarro.
Tips
  • The PPK12 Gauss Pistol is the most powerful pistol in the game, with penetration comparable to pulse weapons. Its main drawback is the scarcity of 2mm EC ammo outside the Enclave base. It deals roughly twice the damage of the .223 pistol and is excellent for any enemy. Only the M72 is a more powerful small arm.
  • Save your game before entering the fourth level.
  • If you lack powered armor, the T-51b found on the second level is a good substitute.
