Alright, so you've made it to Witchwood Stones! This place is pretty straightforward, but there are a few goodies hidden away if you know where to look. We're talking Silver Keys, some decent gear, and a Demon Door that's a bit of a puzzle.

Walkthrough

    As soon as you enter Witchwood Stones, look to your left. You'll see a small pond. Equip your fishing rod and cast out into it. You'll snag Silver Key #14.

    Keep an eye out for a Demon Door. This one's a bit of a word puzzle. Scattered around the north part of the area are four large stones, each with a letter on it: I, H, T, and S. You need to hit these stones in the correct order to spell out the Demon Door's name. If you're stuck, a guy at the Temple of Avo can tell you for a Ruby, but it's actually pretty simple. The name is HITS. Hit the stones in that order (H, then I, then T, then S) and the door will open, leading you into the Witchwood Caverns.

    Inside the Demon Door's area, you'll find a chest surrounded by bushes. This one contains the Obsidian Greathammer.

    To the north of that, you'll find another chest containing Chainmail Gauntlets.

    The Demon Door requires 15 Silver Keys to open its own chest. This chest contains a Health Augmentation, Chainmail Leggings, a Resurrection Phial, a Howl Tattoo, a Sapphire, and a Ruby.

After you've dealt with the Demon Door, you'll have completed the 'Find the Archeologist' quest. Your next step will be back at the Heroes' Guild.

The White Balverine Quest (Mandatory Quest 11)

Later in the game, you'll need to warp back to Witchwood Stones for the 'The White Balverine' quest. When you arrive back, one of two events might trigger:

  • Good Event: A man will approach you and ask for help saving his wife. Follow him to the large stones where you'll be ambushed by bandits. Take them all out, then track down the man who led you into the trap (he'll be hiding in the north part of the area). If you spare his life, he'll give you a Resurrection Phial.
  • Bad Event: A man will approach you asking for help assaulting a rich trader. Follow him, and you'll be ambushed by guards instead of bandits. Kill them all, and then find the man who lied to you (he's in the same hiding spot). If you talk to him, he'll give you a Resurrection Phial. If you kill him, you'll gain 60 evil points.
Tips
  • Don't forget to fish in the pond right at the entrance for that first Silver Key! It's easy to miss.
  • The Demon Door puzzle is straightforward once you know the name. Just hit the stones in the H-I-T-S order.
  • The loot inside the 15-key Demon Door chest is really good, especially the Health Augmentation.
  • For 'The White Balverine' quest, remember that sparing the informant in either event nets you a Resurrection Phial. Killing him gives evil points if that's your thing.
