Welcome to the Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation walkthrough! Learn about the game's battle system, vocation system, and how this guide will help you find treasures and progress.
Welcome to my walkthrough for Dragon Quest VI! I wrote a FAQ for the DS release of Dragon Quest V and was hoping that this game would have the same vibe, and I'm glad to say that it does, so I decided to do what I enjoy most, play the game and write a FAQ for it.
The battle system, graphical style and menus are pretty much identical to DQV, which is why you'll see some of the same information in the game basics section. However, there are some significant differences: this game includes a value for Style and you'll notice that equipment adds points to that attribute; the church doesn't offer Benediction if you're cursed; and there's no passage of time from night to day or T'n' T boards! The vast number of monsters that could be recruited in DQV has been cut down to a bare minimum, but perhaps that is compensated for by the addition of a class/vocation system, familiar to players of Dragon Warrior VII and DQIX.
I never got around to finishing the original DQVI on the SNES, so my take on this game is very much based on my experience with the other DS releases. Be warned, there are no spoilers for the story and I won't mention things that you can discover for yourself about particular bosses or threats to existence... However, I will give plenty of details about where to find things and where to go next, so you shouldn't get lost! I am a bit chatty (it's the unavoidable effect of a Dragon Quest game!) so if you don't like this style of walkthrough, please feel free to choose another one. :)
The arrangement of this FAQ is pretty straightforward:
- The Game Basics section outlines the controls, what all the commands mean, and how to utilise the menu system and the AI to your best advantage.
- The walkthrough takes you through the game location by location (with a few links to detailed maps at GameFAQs) and describes where to find every treasure and every Mini-Medal.
- Section V features guides to the unique features of the game: the recruitment of monsters, the vocation system, mini-games and the like.
- The final section includes lots of lists of items, stuff you can find, buy and equip, and monsters you'll encounter.
