Navigate the treacherous Underground Level 3 in Dragon Quest VI! Learn strategies to defeat the Second Test boss, find hidden treasures, and progress deeper into the dungeon.

Alright, so you've made it to Underground Level 3. This place can be a bit of a maze, but don't worry, I'll guide you through it. First things first, when you enter, you'll see a path going left. Don't take it – it's a dead end. Instead, make your way up the cavern and look for a path that heads towards the west wall. Follow that path upwards, and you'll find a treasure chest containing a [MINI MEDAL]. Grab that, and then head back to the middle of the cave.

From the center, go straight up, and then take the path to the right. You'll soon spot another blue boss waiting for you. Keep an eye out, because Metal Slimes sometimes pop up on this floor, and on the next one too!

Boss: Second Test

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Reflection: Be careful! Don't cast Sap, as it will be reflected back at your caster.
  • Defense: Cast Kabuff on your party immediately to reduce incoming damage.
  • Attacks: The boss uses Wind Sickles on a single target and a stronger melee attack.
  • Vulnerability: It becomes vulnerable to spells once its Bounce wears off.

Strategy:

  • The Second Test boss looks like a Ram. It might use a sleep attack, but it's not common. The main thing is to cast Kabuff on your whole team right away. This will significantly reduce the damage from its Wind Sickles, which target one person.
  • Its regular melee attack isn't too powerful either, but it might charge up for a stronger hit on the next turn. If you have Carver, you can have him use his Forbearance skill to take the hits for the team. Alternatively, weaker characters can just defend.
  • I actually had some luck using the Lucky Dip Gadabout skill, which totally distracted the boss and prevented its next attack! But honestly, with Kabuff up, even its strongest hits won't be devastating.
  • Just stick to physical attacks and skills until you see the message that Bounce has worn off. This means it's now vulnerable to magic. That's your cue to start using Sap. Once you hit it with Sap a couple of times, the battle will be over pretty quickly.
  • You'll get 750 experience points and 300 Gold for winning this fight.

After the battle, the Prince will have run off again. To find him, head back towards where you started this level and go right, over some steps, and then head upwards. Once you're back in the upper right area, approach the next door. Go through it, and then head down to reach the next level. Alternatively, you can use Evac now to return to town, save, and heal up. If you do that, you won't have to fight the bosses again, but Howie will need to open the doors for you once more when you return.
