Find the Mark of Erdrick and defeat the Wrecktor in Dragon Quest II's optional Middenhall 2 dungeon. Learn strategies and rewards.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Enter the room to the east and head south to find treasure chests containing a SEED OF LIFE, MEDICINAL HERB, ~1146G, SEED OF STRENGTH, SEED OF MAGIC, and the MARK OF ERDRICK.
  2. 2
The Mark of Erdrick can be used later in the game to obtain a helmet.
  3. 3
Go back into the building and use your Silver Key on the door.
  4. 4
    Head north to the Jail.
  5. 5
Unlock the northern cell; the NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) inside will reveal that the King of Alefgard has the Soul Sigil.
  6. 6
Unlock the door to the south. Ensure your party is fully healed on HP (health points) and MP (magic points).
  7. 7
Go south 2 steps, unlock the southern cell door, and walk all the way west.
  8. 8
Each party member will take 28 damage; heal them.
  9. 9
Look south and press the A button to find a SEED OF AGILITY.
  10. 10
Press the Y button to open the menu instead of A to avoid talking to the NPC until after you use the seed.
  11. 11
After using the SEED OF AGILITY, ensure the Hero has some Medicinal Herbs.
  12. 12
Quick Save your game and talk to the NPC.
  13. 13
The NPC is revealed to be a monster named WRECKTOR.

WRECKTOR Battle Details:

The WRECKTOR has 165 HP and 48 MP. It can cast Kasap (lowers enemy stats), Kabuff (raises party defense), Kaboom (powerful area attack), and Kazing (instant death spell).

Tips
  • This battle may require several attempts.
  • On the first turn, have the Hero attack, the Prince defend, and the Princess cast Dazzle (lowers enemy accuracy).
  • Do not use the Fizzle spell on the Wrecktor, as it will stop casting its buff and debuff spells and resort to powerful physical attacks.
  • In subsequent turns, have the Hero attack, and the Prince and Princess either heal or defend.
  • The Hero may need to use Medicinal Herbs if the Wrecktor casts Kaboom.
  • Casting Kasap on the Wrecktor is beneficial if possible.
  • Victory requires a combination of strategy and luck.
  • Note that the Wrecktor will not cast Kazing as there are no other monsters aiding it.

Upon defeating the Wrecktor, you will receive 968 EXP (experience points), 170G (gold coins), and a LIGHTNING STAFF.

Item Usage Notes:

  • The Lightning Staff is generally more powerful than the Wizard's Staff when used as an item in battle, hitting a group of monsters.
  • Equip the Lightning Staff on the Princess.
  • Give the Wizard's Staff to the Prince.
  • If you equipped Erdrick's Sword on the Prince earlier, use the Wizard's Staff only as an item in battle.
  • If the Hero has Erdrick's Sword, equip the Wizard's Staff on the Prince.

After the battle, heal up, walk through the damage tiles, and go up the stairs. You can rest at the Inn if desired before leaving town.
