Discover the optional Moonbrooke Castle in Dragon Quest II. Learn about its story significance, unique encounters, and how to progress through its secrets.

Hey there! So, you're thinking about checking out Moonbrooke Castle? It's totally optional, and honestly, there's no treasure to find. Think of it like Erdrick's Cave from the first game – it's mostly there to flesh out the story and give new players a bit of guidance on what to do next. If you're new to the game, it can be a good spot to get your bearings.

Before you head over, make sure you've got a Chimaera Wing stashed in your inventory. Once you do, cross the bridge south of Moonahan and then make your way west. You can't miss Moonbrooke!

You'll run into monsters you've probably seen before. Keep an eye out for Corpse Corporals, as they can cast Dazzle. This spell makes your physical attacks really inaccurate, which can be a pain. You might have encountered one south of Moonahan, but they're way more common here.

Once you're inside, head north and talk to the flame. It's a pretty safe bet that this is the spirit of the former King, and the Princess's father. Talking to him is how you're supposed to figure out that the Princess is actually a dog! Pretty wild, right?

Just a heads-up, any treasure chests you find in here are empty. Seriously, nothing inside.

To get to the inner courtyard and the stairs, you'll need to go just outside the main castle walls on the northwestern side. From there, head south, keeping close to the castle wall. When you reach the southwestern corner, turn northeast towards the courtyard and then head down the stairs.

Down there, you'll find a fallen guard. Talk to him, and he'll transform into a flame. Chat with him again, and the flame will disappear. This whole sequence is actually a pretty big clue about what you need to do with Ra's Mirror later on.

And that's pretty much it for Moonbrooke! Once you're done, you can leave and either walk back or use a Chimaera Wing to zip back to Moonahan.
