3-socket Armor

The runeword Enigma (Jah + Ith + Ber) is arguably the best suit of armor in the game. Due to its high rune cost, selecting a good base is crucial. While typically you'd choose armor based on Strength requirements, Enigma provides +0.75 Strength per Character Level, reducing the need for high Strength investment. Recommended bases include Dusk Shroud (360 - 460 Defense, 77 Strength required) for high defense, or Mage Plate (220 - 260 Defense, 55 Strength required) for lower Strength requirements and style points.

4-socket Armor

Other notable 4-socket runeword armors include Fortitude (El + Sol + Dol + Lo) and Chains of Honor (Dol + Um + Ber + Ist). Fortitude is often used for mercenaries, allowing for high Strength requirements and the use of ethereal bases since mercenaries don't lose durability.
