The maximum level in diablo ii resurrected is technically Level 99. Reaching Level 99 from Level 98 is extremely time-consuming and typically requires hundreds of runs. Players can generally expect to reach Level 30-40 by the end of Normal difficulty, Level 60-70 by the end of Nightmare difficulty, and around Level 80 by the time they defeat Baal in Hell difficulty. Aiming for Level 85-90 is a reasonable goal for most builds, which will grant approximately 450 Stat Points and 100 Skill Points, including quest rewards. Some builds are more complete by Level 70, while others benefit from Skill Points well into the Level 80s. Most builds are not highly effective until the Level 30s, especially when compared to lower-leveled alternatives.

For this reason, it is recommended to use Beginner Builds for each class to reach Level 30 and beyond, before you respec (reallocate your skill and stat points) into your final build. The optimal time to respec varies by character.

EXP Penalties:

• Dying in Nightmare difficulty incurs a 5% EXP penalty.
• Dying in Hell difficulty incurs a 10% EXP penalty.
