Upgrading set items preserves their existing modifiers, including unique properties and set bonuses.

Belts gain significantly more potion slots when upgraded, offering a more compelling reason for their upgrade compared to other armor types. For example, upgrading Death's Guard from a Sash to a Demonhide Sash increases potion slots from 4 to 16.

Weapons increase in base damage when upgraded. For instance, a Short War Bow (base damage 6-14) becomes a Rune Bow (14-35) and then a Ward Bow (20-53) at exceptional and elite tiers respectively.

While these recipes upgrade the base item type, the overall benefit is often questionable. Normal-tier sets, even when upgraded, may not become competitive with exceptional uniques, sets, runewords, or rare items due to generally poor modifiers and increased Strength/level requirements.

Exceptional sets fare better, but the number of weapons worth upgrading in this category is limited.

These upgrades primarily serve as a way for players with significant in-game wealth to showcase their resources, as the practical benefits are often marginal.
