How Do Sundered Charms Work in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Sundered Charms are unique Grand Charms that can only be found in Hell Difficulty Terror Zones, dropped by Champion, Unique, Superunique, and Boss monsters. These charms break a single type of enemy immunity, but impose a significant vulnerability to the same damage type on the player.

There are six types of Sundered Charms, each affecting a different immunity:

• The Black Cleft: Breaks Magic Immunity; lowers player's Magic Resistance by 45% to 65%.
• The Bone Break: Breaks Physical Immunity; player takes 10% to 30% extra Physical Damage.
• The Cold Rupture: Breaks Cold Immunity; player's Cold Resistance is lowered by 70% to 90%.
• The Crack of the Heavens: Breaks Lightning Immunity; player's Lightning Resistance is lowered by 70% to 90%.
• The Rotting Fissure: Breaks Poison Immunity; player's Poison Resistance is lowered by 70% to 90%.
• Flame Rift: Breaks Fire Immunity; player's Fire Resistance is lowered by 70% to 90%.

When an enemy's immunity is sundered, their resistance to that damage type is reduced to 95%, making them heavily resistant rather than immune. This change occurs before other resistance modifications.

However, sundered enemies are still considered to have been immune, which affects certain skills and gear:

• Lower Resistance and Conviction auras are only 20% effective against sundered enemies. For example, Infinity's Lv12 Conviction will not reduce resistance to 10% but to 78%.
• Gear that reduces enemy resistances, like Griffon's Eye or Death's Web, applies its full effect to the sundered resistance.
• The Sorceress's Cold Mastery skill has its full effect on sundered cold resistance, potentially doubling damage output for Cold Sorceresses.

The effectiveness of Sundered Charms varies. The Bone Break may be detrimental due to the rarity of physical immunes. The Black Cleft might be less useful for Hammerdins due to rare magic immunes and difficulty boosting player Magic Resistance. Poisonmancers can often bypass poison immunes with minions, and poison damage is less critical. Lightning Sorceresses benefit from Tal Rasha's gear mitigating the resistance penalty from The Crack of the Heavens. Cold Sorceresses find The Cold Rupture devastating due to Cold Mastery, despite the challenge in increasing Cold Resistance.
