Complete Warcraft III: Reforged Digging Up the Dead mission walkthrough. Learn how to recover remains, establish a base, and claim the Urn.
Walkthrough
- 1Begin without a base. Group Arthas and ghouls together, and keep meat wagons separate. Ensure meat wagons have auto-gather corpse enabled.
- 2Head right to destroy the scout tower, then advance with Arthas and ghouls to eliminate the footmen. Keep meat wagons at a safe distance to avoid their splash attack. Use meat wagons to pull footmen from afar for your standard units to intercept, then pull them back.
- 3Proceed forward for a brief cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically). Order meat wagons to attack the watch towers and farms.
- 4When facing 4 footmen, a cannon tower, a watch tower, and two farms, position meat wagons vertically to attack the ground near the footmen, hitting both. Attack once, then retreat meat wagons out of range as footmen advance.
- 5Have Arthas and ghouls intercept the footmen, focusing on low-health targets to avoid losses.
- 6Once footmen are cleared, use meat wagons to destroy the defense towers and then the farms.
- 7Clear an inventory spot for Arthas (a healing potion is recommended) and heal up.
- 8Engage the paladin and four footmen. Keep meat wagons rolled back. Focus the level two paladin first, as he heals footmen. Use Arthas's death coil sparingly due to mana limitations and micro ghouls as they may die faster than the cooldown refreshes.
- 9After the paladin is defeated, he drops a scroll of healing. Use it to heal ghouls and then focus down the remaining footmen.
- 10Bring meat wagons back to destroy any remaining structures if desired.
- 11Bring Arthas to the graveyard southeast of your position and into the circle to complete the first objective.
- 12After the cutscene, establish a base. Move meat wagons to the back of your base to avoid splash damage.
- 13Have one acolyte haunt a gold mine and another build a Necropolis northwest of your base, near the western forest and south of the corn stalks, for defensive positioning of the upgraded Necropolis.
- 14Wait for the Necropolis or gold mine to complete and establish blight before building further.
- 15Send ghouls to harvest lumber. Have an acolyte build a graveyard as close to the eastern forest as possible. Have another acolyte build two ziggurats north of the Necropolis. Acolytes can move on to other tasks after starting construction.
- 16If attacked before having spirit towers, pull ghouls to assist.
- 17Build a Crypt once resources allow. Convert completed ziggurats to spirit towers. Train one additional acolyte and rally them to the gold mine.
- 18Use another acolyte to build more ziggurats on the north side of the base; eight should be sufficient for defense.
- 19If attacked by footmen, pull ghouls to help. Once ziggurats are built and upgraded, upgrade the Necropolis to a Halls of the Dead. Keep an acolyte near ziggurats for repairs.
- 20Obtain upgrades from the graveyard when resources permit. After the Halls of the Dead completes, build a Slaughterhouse if needed (if you still have three meat wagons, it's likely unnecessary). Build another Crypt when possible.
- 21Begin mass training ghouls, up to 70 food capacity. Rally new ghouls to lumber.
- 22With two crypts, train 70 food worth of ghouls. Hotkey your ghouls with Arthas (including lumber gatherers) into two full groups and one smaller group. Hotkey your meat wagons.
- 23Before attacking the alliance, move the two full ghoul groups south across the river.
- 24Clear the three level six golems in the area.
- 25Observe the elevated ledge to your right, follow it south to a ramp, and ascend. A level nine golem will appear; kill it and pick up the Pendant of Energy for Arthas to increase his mana pool for more death coils.
- 26Refresh your attack group if ghouls were lost attacking the level nine golem. Return Arthas and all ghouls to blight for faster health regeneration, aided by Arthas's aura.
- 27Once attack groups are refilled and at near full health, save and move forward.
- 28Cross the river and clear the three level six golems.
- 29Observe the elevated ledge to your right, and follow that to the south till you come to a ramp. Move up here and a level 9 golem will emerge. Kill him and pick up the pendant of energy for Arthas (This item helps an enormous deal as Arthas mana pool does not allow for many death coils).
- 30Refresh your attack group and move Arthas and all the ghouls back to blight for faster health regeneration. Between blight and Arthas aura they will heal back to near full once your attack groups are refilled.
- 31Now with your groups set back up again, save and move forward.
Tips
- Keep meat wagons out of range of enemy units, as their splash attack can also damage your own units.
- Use meat wagons to pull enemies from afar, then have your standard units intercept them. Pull meat wagons back immediately after.
- When attacking footmen formations, position meat wagons vertically to maximize splash damage, hitting multiple units with one attack.
- Focus the paladin down first as he will heal enemy units.
- Micro your ghouls carefully during combat, especially when using Arthas's death coil, to manage mana and prevent unit loss.
- After clearing the initial objectives, position your Necropolis near the western forest for better defensive coverage from its upgraded form.
- Acolytes only need to start construction; they can then move on to other tasks.
- Build eight ziggurats on the north side of your base for sufficient defense.
- Upgrade your Necropolis to a Halls of the Dead after building and upgrading your ziggurats.
- Train up to 70 food worth of ghouls for attacking.
- Rally all newly trained ghouls to lumber to ensure a steady supply.
- Use the Pendant of Energy found after defeating the level nine golem to increase Arthas's mana pool.
- Utilize blight and Arthas's aura for rapid unit regeneration before engaging further.
