Valkyria Chronicles 4 Part 19 covers Chapter 18b Hard and multiple Squad Stories. Learn enemy differences and strategies.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Prepare at R&D and the infirmary before starting Chapter 18b Hard mode.
  2. 2
Note that enemies are Paragon units in this mode.
  3. 3
You have one less turn to reach the goal with Riley.
  4. 4
The boss emerges from the southeast on 4et instead of 6et. Ensure antitank grenadiers are eliminated for the APC to reach the southeast. The APC can hide in the northeast corner.
  5. 5
When the boss appears in the southeast, it can target initial deployment units. Use command points to retreat or hide units like Claude to the west, or move snipers south to outrange the boss cannon. Consider using smoke on the boss's spawn point or your units.
  6. 6
The southwest engineer and Scout are replaced by an engineer and shock trooper; the APC and Minerva can defeat them.
  7. 7
The sniper north of the start position is now crouched and may move on 3et; eliminate it.
  8. 8
The shock trooper starting in the southwest enemy camp will crouch on 1et instead of standing.
  9. 9
An additional sniper is located in the Southwest near Riley's goal; use a grenadier from behind the APC to defeat it.
  10. 10
The northeastern grenadier now advances south each turn; use snipers to defeat it before it becomes a threat.
  11. 11
The boss uses a defensive order, but reinforcements do not receive the buff.
  12. 12
Be aware of additional mines, which your APC and engineer can handle.
  13. 13
Shooting the intake valve prevents the boss from diving but does not expose its radiator.
Tips
  • For Squad Story - Like Old Times (3 turns), position units to manipulate the AI, using interception fire to eliminate incoming enemies before they can act.
  • Curtis and Eileen can form a blockade on turn 2 in the southwest to divert shock troopers northward.
  • Laurent can make long-distance shots at tank radiators.
  • Kill the ace with a surprise attack by veering right on the West Hill to avoid aggro.
  • For Squad Story - Gambler's Ruin (3 turns), equip Teresa with the telescope and utilize grenade trick shots. The scout near the Ace is tougher than the Ace itself.
  • For Squad Story - Honor, Pride and Regret (2 turns), equip Rebecca with the telescope.
  • For Squad Story - A Prayer For the Broken (2 turns), equip Rosetta with the telescope.
  • For Squad Story - Treading New Ground (3 turns), be aware that the tread damage cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) triggers upon advancing Claude west, which also teleports Aulard. Avoid teleporting Aulard as it places him in the open. The federate tank is useful; if it misses the heavy tank on turn 2, Riley can kill the grenadier, allowing Aulard to disarm mines for a closer shot. Claude can sneak past the heavy tank on turn 3 by using aiming mode to reset its turret, or destroy it from the front with command points.
  • For Squad Story - All the Single Ladies (2 turns), repair and climb down the ladder instead of dealing with gatlings down the ramp. Riley and Kai will assist in defeating enemies.
  • For Squad Story - Unfortunate Souls (3 turns), if Jimmy misses his shot on the Grenadier tower, he may be fired upon. You can target swap to prevent the grenadier from targeting him if he misses. Destroying sandbags at the end can allow for further actions.
