Valkyria Chronicles 4 Part 14 covers Chapters 8a, 8b, 9, and 10, detailing strategies for APCs, boss fights, and the Vulcan.
Chapter 8a (1t)
This chapter is noted for its lack of antitank mortars, cannons, gatlings, or heavy tanks that could damage or body block the APC, allowing for a one-turn clear as no royal weapons are involved.
Chapter 8b (2t)
A strategy involves Minerva killing the grenadier and moving with Raz and Keigel northeast, Aladdin sniping east into the grass, Jascha destroying the heavy antitank, and Claude driving towards the goal. Lancers and heavy tanks are dealt with along the way. Riley typically takes 2 command points to clear the southwest camp, but can do it in 1. On turn 2, Raz can get a reliable kill on Nikola. While not necessary, smoking Chiara is the most effective and reliable way to defeat her; alternatively, grenadier surprise attacks or timing Claude's gatling fire during her reload can work. The royal rewards from this mission can impact subsequent missions, particularly the tier 3 royal lance (1400 damage), tier 3 rifles, and sniper rifles (7 and 3 shots each). Aladdin reaches Corporal Rank after completing this chapter.
Chapter 9 (3t)
Deployment ensures the northeast sniper and Vulcan have no targets. Turn 1 involves Claude hiding and positioning for interception, while Minerva takes Brittany and Raz southwest. The most reliable way to deal with the recall order is to avoid killing anything on turn 1, instead positioning for interception fire and moving towards the west base. Enemies killed on the enemy turn will not be revived as the order is used before units move. On turn 2, Riley moves west, Kai and others move to safety, and Minerva and Brittany capture the west base, deploying an additional sniper. If the Vulcan heads southeast (altered by reloading from a save), it has full firing range on the main camp, forcing its abandonment and requiring lancers to move further to engage it. The lancer strategy costs 6-7 command points, while the antiarmor mortar is less reliable per attack but costs 4-5 command points overall. To lure the Vulcan closer, the Valkyria must be active, no units can be in the upper half of the map, and Claude can be the only vehicle. The Vulcan is not destroyed on turn one for reliability. Destroying the Vulcan is not necessary for 5 royal weapons. On turn 3, Claude can shoot the Vulcan, and Aoife and Jascha can destroy it. Azusa can be replaced with an engineer for increased reliability against the Vulcan. The mission can end with up to 5 command points to spare. Aoife reaches Corporal Rank after completing this chapter.
Chapter 10 (4t)
Claude clears a path and positions for base defense, Azusa heads into west tunnels to capture the northwest camp and kill the ace, Minerva moves to east high ground, Aladdin repositions shocks and heads for nearby high ground, Jascha fires at targets, Kai and Mabel snipe, and Raz handles bosses. This mission may deploy 2 shocks, useful for base defense and killing high HP bosses. The boss AI on this stage is simple: on turn 1, they always advance. On turn 2, if an allied sniper is visible to any enemy, they advance towards that sniper; otherwise, they advance.
- In Chapter 8a, body shots are sufficient if within range, headshots are not required.
- In Chapter 8b, using smoke grenades on Chiara is the most effective and reliable method for defeating her.
- In Chapter 9, consider using smoke on your main camp on turn 2 to save a command point.
- In Chapter 9, waiting until turn 3 to deal with the south sniper can be more efficient.
- In Chapter 10, shocks have limited use on level one runs but are effective for base defense and killing high HP bosses.
