Learn about Super Sonic, Super Knuckles, Hyper Sonic, and Super Tails transformations in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Requires 7 Chaos/Super Emeralds.

Sonic & Knuckles Transformations:

In Sonic & Knuckles, there are two transformations: Super Sonic and Super Knuckles. You must first obtain all 7 Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Forms. Collecting 50 Rings allows you to double jump and enable these transformations. You lose Rings every second while transformed, so collect more Rings to maintain your Super Form. Losing a life occurs if you crush yourself, drown, or fall into bottomless pits.

Super Sonic runs faster than regular Sonic and can break through barriers that normally require a Spin Dash. Super Knuckles runs and climbs much faster than regular Knuckles. Both transformations can destroy Badniks by touch. Collecting all 7 Chaos Emeralds makes Mini-Bosses and Bosses easier and unlocks better endings. Collecting all 7 Chaos Emeralds as Sonic also grants access to The Doomsday Zone.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles Transformations:

In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, there are five transformations: Super Sonic, Super Knuckles, Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, and Super Tails. You need all 7 Chaos Emeralds for Super Forms and all 7 Super Emeralds for Hyper Forms, with Super Tails being an exception requiring 7 Super Emeralds. Collecting 50 Rings allows you to double jump and enable these transformations. You lose Rings every second while transformed, so collect more Rings to maintain your Super/Hyper Form. Losing a life occurs if you crush yourself, drown, or fall into bottomless pits.

Super Sonic runs faster than regular Sonic and breaks through barriers requiring a Spin Dash. Hyper Sonic can breathe underwater, double jump to unleash a lightning attack destroying all Badniks on screen, and is available for Sonic Alone or Sonic & Tails. Super Knuckles runs and climbs faster than regular Knuckles. Hyper Knuckles can breathe underwater and glide into a wall to destroy all Badniks on screen. Super Tails can fly up faster, stay airborne longer, and his 4 surrounding Flicky birds automatically attack all enemies. All transformations can destroy Badniks by touch.

Collecting all 7 Chaos/Super Emeralds makes Mini-Bosses and Bosses easier and unlocks better endings. Collecting all 7 Chaos Emeralds as Sonic Alone or Sonic & Tails grants access to The Doomsday Zone.

Once you collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds and transform them into grey Super Emeralds in the Emerald Chamber of Hidden Palace Zone, you can no longer transform into the characters' Super Forms.
