    Follow the path until a platform begins ascending.

    Keep running on the platform until you reach the final spikes.

    The platform will stop rising.

    Robotnik will swoop down and appear in the center of the screen.

    Dr. Robotnik's Spiked Swinging Machine will unleash a laser. This machine is similar to Sonic 2's Wing Fortress Zone Boss, but you cannot destroy it directly.

    Each time the machine fires a laser, it damages itself and causes the room to cave in.

    If you have a Lightning Shield or Water Shield, you can hit the machine, but it will have no effect on its destruction.
