From your landing spot, drop down two ledges and use a Spin Dash (a move where Sonic curls into a ball and dashes forward) to break through boulders.

Press the switch and proceed through the opening.

Hop across the rocks. Warning: Falling into the pool of lava will cause damage.

Go right and climb the steps, avoiding the flamethrowers.

Collect the Invincibility power-up and continue right.

Run down the slope and cross the pool of lava.

Press the switch and go through the opening.

Use a Spin Dash to break through boulders and run through the brown cylinder.

Run left and go past the pool of lava.

When you reach the waterfall of lava, wait for an opening to appear before crossing.

Use the spring to jump over to the Starpost (a checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) that saves your progress).

Collect the Flame Shield power-up and go left.

Destroy the switch and go through an opening.

Jump on the black platform and position Sonic to the left.

Use a Spin Dash to lower the platform.

Go right and press the switch.

Go through the opening and make your way down the steps.

Head across the waterfall of lava and press the switch.

Go through the opening and head right.

You can attack the drilling machine; it will fall into the pool of lava and be destroyed.

When you land, hop across the rocks and press the switch.

Climb up the steps and use a Spin Dash to move upwards.

Use a Spin Dash to break through boulders and use the moving spiked platform.

As the platform reaches its highest point, jump right to enter a fake wall.

You will discover a hidden room containing the Giant Ring.
