This beam leads you to a rocket that will launch you up Ghost Train Mountain. After the rocket drops you on a red platform sticking out of the mountain, turn around. Jump off the side of the mountain and start gliding. Keep an eye out for a series of platforms, similar to the ones you started on, but located *above* them. You're looking for a platform in the middle of this set that has two fences on it; the Chao Box is right between them.
2. Chao Box 2: Now, from where you found the first Chao Box, turn to face Pumpkin Mountain. Glide towards it, and look for the third ledge from the bottom that juts out from the mountain.
