Beyond the Tarot Door

Guide to Silent Hill 3's Beyond the Tarot Door section, including the final boss fight against The God and using the Aglaophotis tablet.

Final Boss: The God (Under Church)

The God initially stands upright with a curtain over its face. Equip the Handgun for its range and ample (ammunition) and fire until The God lowers to its hands and knees.

From this position, you can attack The God's head with firearms or a melee weapon. Stay outside the inner part of the black semi-circle marking on the floor to avoid The God's physical arm smacks, though it can still throw fire.

Strategy for Extra Weapon (Melee):

• To unlock an extra weapon, defeat The God with a melee weapon.
• Be prepared for physical attacks if you get close.
• When The God is on its hands and knees, wait for it to swing its arm.
• While behind the black semi-circle, attack its head 2-3 times with the Katana, then retreat.
• Use Handgun shots from behind the line while dodging fire attacks.
• Repeat this strategy.
• Consider restricting firearms to when The God is standing upright after the initial phase.
• The God only dies from its lower position, so focus attacks there late in the fight.

PC Version Specifics:

• A safe zone exists to the right of The God's head in its lower position, near the arm along the low edge wall.
• Wait for the first arm swing while The God is down, then attack 3-4 times.
• Strafe to the side wall; The God's swing will pass through you.
• Return for more attacks and retreat to the safe zone before its next attack.
• Always wait for the first arm swing before attacking when The God is in its lower stance.
• Use Handgun fire from the higher stance to bring it down each time.

PS2 Version Specifics:

• The safe zone does not exist.
• Strafing or running side-to-side is necessary to avoid fire attacks.
• The God telegraphs fire attacks by flicking its arm. Move as soon as you see this.
• Fire attacks start slow and may divert outward once, but later speed up and divert 2-3 times. Keep moving until the fire stops.
• Take the opportunity to fire at The God after dodging fire.
• Heal when hit, as attacks are damaging.

General Boss Fight Tips:

• After dodging fire, The God will stand up; use Handgun bullets to bring it back down.
• When The God drops to its hands and knees, you can again go for Katana swings after its first arm swing, or safely fire from behind the semi-circle.
• While the Handgun is efficient, the Shotgun and Submachine Gun offer more power. Be mindful of the Shotgun's slow recovery time.
• The Bulletproof Vest can reduce damage but limits speed and strafing, making it less ideal for fire attacks.
• Stay on top of your health as The God hits often and hard.

The God's Attacks:

• Standing Arm Swing: Easiest to avoid by staying away from close range.
• Hands and Knees Arm Swing: Does not reach beyond the semi-circle.
• Hands and Knees Headbutt: If right by its face. Approach from the side to avoid while attacking.
