Learn about Railroad: (2) in Sid Meier's Civilization VII. This guide covers new features like Ages, Influence, Rivers, and Settlements.
Walkthrough
- 1Ages: The game is divided into three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Each age has unique tech and civic trees. Civilizations are bound to one age and can transform into others in subsequent ages based on player actions and specific gameplay elements (e.g., owning 3 Horse Resources grants access to Mongolia in the Exploration Age). A temporary 'Crisis' occurs during each Age shift, forcing players to adopt negative policies to balance the game.
- 2Influence Yield: A new yield type called 'Influence' is introduced, used for diplomacy with other civilizations.
- 3Rivers: Rivers are now categorized into small rivers (crossable normally) and wide, navigable rivers. Navigable rivers can be traversed by Naval Units and embarked Units. Rivers now run through tiles rather than along their edges.
- 4Settlements: Cities are now divided into 'Cities' and 'Towns', both categorized as 'Settlements'. All Settlements, except the Capital, start as Towns, which cannot produce anything independently.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the Age transitions and the 'Crisis' mechanic, as strategic policy choices can significantly impact your game.
- Leverage the new 'Influence' yield for effective diplomatic maneuvering.
- Utilize navigable rivers for faster unit movement and strategic positioning.
- Understand the distinction between Cities and Towns and plan your settlement development accordingly.
