The following details the initial progression through Ashina Reservoir:

1. Reach the Moon-view Tower.
2. Acquire the Kusabimaru and Healing Gourd.
3. Face Mini-Boss Leader Shigenori Yamauchi.
4. Face Boss Genichiro Ashina.

The game begins with a tutorial section in Ashina Reservoir. You will learn basic movement, stealth, eavesdropping, wall hugging, ledge hanging, and combat mechanics such as Posture, Deathblows, and Deflection. You will receive your Katana, Kusabimaru, and the Healing Gourd from Kuro. The initial objective is to find a secret passage beneath the moat’s bridge to help Kuro escape Ashina Castle. Along the way, you will encounter enemies and a Mini-Boss, Leader Shigenori Yamauchi, learning how to counter-attack and that Mini-Bosses require multiple Deathblows.
