Learn to use the Player Search System (PSS) in Pokémon X and Y to connect with players globally, battle, trade, and utilize O-Powers. Your complete guide to online interaction.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Access the PSS from the bottom screen.
  2. 2
On the initial PSS screen, touch the blue circular button to connect to the Internet or disconnect if already connected.
  3. 3
To the left of the Internet button, touch the other button to open a plethora of options split across two pages.
  4. 4
Understand player designations: Passersby (detected via Local Wireless and/or Internet), Acquaintances (Passersby after battling or trading), and Friends (players with shared 3DS/2DS friend codes).
  5. 5
When a player is selected and active, you can: Check Profile, Battle, Trade, View Trainer PR Video, and Send O-Power.
  6. 6
If the player is a Friend, you can also use Game Chat.
  7. 7
To switch pages on the PSS, touch the arrow on the left or right-hand side.
  8. 8
On the first page, explore: Battle (local or online), Trade (local or online), Battle Spot (random trainer battle), Wonder Trade (trade for a random Pokémon), Shout-Out (display a text message to connected players), and Holo Caster (receive Poké Miles and news).
  9. 9
On the second page, explore: GTS (Global Trade Station for offering/supplying Pokémon trade requests), Game Sync (synchronize progress with Pokémon Global Link), O-Powers (temporarily boost stats or provide other benefits, typically lasting 3 minutes), Favourites List (track favorite players), Profile (edit your trainer profile), and PSS Settings (change PSS settings, e.g., disable Passersby).
  10. 10
To exit the PSS, press the “Return” button in the bottom-right corner or hit the B button.
Tips
  • Sociable Pokémon trainers will be using the PSS a lot.
  • If playing offline, Passersby will only be players close to you. If nobody is playing nearby, no Passersby will appear.
  • The GTS is useful if you don’t know other players or dislike haggling with random Passersby.
  • O-Powers can be used on yourself or given to other players.
