Alright, let's talk about how you're going to zip around the Kalos region! Getting from place to place quickly is super important, and thankfully, Pokémon X and Y give you a few awesome ways to do it. We've got Roller Skates for early-game speed, a trusty Bicycle for longer journeys, and the game-changing HM Fly for instant travel.

Roller Skates

You'll snag your first pair of Roller Skates pretty early on, right outside the first gym in Santalune City. You'll need to beat the person offering them in a battle first, though! These bad boys let you move way faster than walking, but remember, they only work when you're outside. To use them, just push any direction on the Circle Pad, and then use the Circle Pad to steer. You're not stuck to the grid anymore, and you can even grind on special rails to reach new spots. There's also a 'Running Start' trick you can learn in Lumiose City's Vert Plaza that gives you an extra speed boost. If you need to stop skating, just tap any direction on the D-pad.

Bicycle

Don't worry, the classic Bicycle is still here! You can grab one from the cycling shop in Cyllage City. As soon as you walk in, they'll give you a little test, and then you get to pick between a yellow or green bike. Just a heads-up, you can't change the color later, so choose wisely! Like the skates, the Bicycle lets you zoom across Kalos, but again, no indoor use – it's just too dangerous!

Flight

When you really need to cover some serious ground, even the skates and bike won't cut it. That's where HM02 Fly comes in. You'll get this Hidden Machine from Professor Sycamore once you reach Coumarine City. However, you can't actually use it to fly around the region until you've defeated the Coumarine Gym Leader, Ramos. Once you've earned that right, teach Fly to a Pokémon that can learn it, select your Pokémon, choose 'USE A MOVE,' and then select Fly. Boom! You'll instantly (well, mostly instantly, the animation is a bit long) be able to fly to any town or city you've already visited. It's a total game-changer for getting back to places or heading to new ones in a flash.
