Friendly Monsters

Discover the locations and requirements for befriending all nine Friendly Monsters in Final Fantasy IX. Get valuable items and AP by offering them specific monster drops.

Final Fantasy IX features several unique side quests where you can encounter and befriend special monsters. By offering them specific items, you can receive valuable rewards, including AP and unique equipment. Here's a guide to finding and befriending each of them:

1. Mu: Found on the world map near the Village of Dali. Requires 1 Ore. Reward: 1 Potion, 10 AP.
2. Ghost: Found on the plains outside Treno. Requires 1 Ore. Reward: 1 Hi-Potion, 10 AP.
3. Ladybug: Found in the forests around Conde Petie and Black Mage Village. Requires 2 Ores. Reward: 1 Ether, 20 AP.
4. Yeti: Found in the forests near Madain Sari after completing events at Conde Petie Mountain Path. Requires 2 Ores. Reward: 1 Elixir, 20 AP.
5. Nymph: Found in the forest near the Iifa Tree on the Outer Continent. Requires 3 Ores. Reward: 1 Emerald, 30 AP.
6. Jabberwock: Found in the forests on the Forgotten Continent (accessible during Disc 3). Requires 1 Emerald. Reward: 1 Moonstone, 40 AP.
7. Feather Circle: Found on the Lost Continent, concentrating on chocobo tracks north of the shore near Esto Gaza. Requires 1 Moonstone. Reward: 1 Lapis Lazuli, 30 AP.
8. Garuda: Found in the forest area above Gizamaluke's Grotto (Popos Heights). Requires 1 Lapis Lazuli. Reward: 1 Diamond, 40 AP.
9. Yan: Found on Vile Island (southwest of Iifa Tree), accessible with a flying Chocobo or the Invincible. This monster only appears if you have befriended all other Friendly Monsters. Requires 1 Diamond. Reward: 1 Rosetta Ring, 50 AP.

Note on Yan: If you fail to befriend Yan or choose to fight it, it is a very dangerous battle. Yan attacks all party members with a physical attack that can inflict Silence and counters all actions. It has high defenses, so use skills like Thievery, Dragon's Crest, Frog Drop, or Limit Glove. Defeating Yan yields the same rewards as befriending it. You can re-encounter Yan if you do not have over a Diamond in your inventory.
