Combat System

Aion's combat is a dynamic blend of real-time action and strategic ability usage. Mastering your class's skill rotations and understanding enemy behaviors are key to victory.

Basic Combat Flow

• Targeting: Use the Tab key to cycle through nearby enemies or click directly on your target. Ensure your target is within range for your chosen abilities.
• Auto-Attack: Once a target is selected and you're in range, your character will automatically perform basic attacks. This is your baseline damage output.
• Skill Usage: Your primary damage and utility come from skills. These are mapped to your hotbar (default 1 through =). Pay attention to cooldowns and mana/DP costs.
• Chains: Many skills in Aion are part of a 'chain' system. Using one skill will often make another skill available for a short duration, indicated by a glowing icon on your hotbar. Prioritize completing these chains for maximum damage and efficiency. For example, a Gladiator's Ferocious Strike might chain into Cleave.
• Movement: Don't stand still! use movement keys (W, A, S, D) to dodge telegraphed attacks, reposition for optimal skill use, or kite enemies.

Advanced Combat Techniques

• Stigma System: As you level up, you'll gain Stigma slots. These allow you to equip specialized skills that significantly alter your class's playstyle. Experiment with different Stigma builds to find what suits your preferred combat role (e.g., a Cleric might choose Splendor of Purification for more healing or Smite for more damage). Visit a Stigma Master in major cities like Sanctum or Pandaemonium to equip or remove Stigmas.
• Godstone Enchanting: Godstones are special items that can be enchanted onto weapons, providing a chance for powerful proc effects like silence, paralysis, or additional elemental damage. Obtain Godstones from various sources, including boss drops in instances like Dark Poeta or through PvP rewards. Right-click the Godstone in your inventory and then click your weapon to enchant.
• DP Skills (Divine Power): As you fight, you accumulate Divine Power (DP). Certain powerful skills, unique to each class, consume DP. These skills often have long cooldowns but can turn the tide of a battle. Manage your DP carefully for critical moments.
• Buffs & Debuffs: Always be aware of your active buffs and any debuffs on yourself or your target. Use dispels (Remove Shock for physical classes, Cure Mind for magic classes) when appropriate.

Growing your Daeva involves more than just leveling up. Aion offers a rich system of character development.

Experience & Leveling

• Questing: Follow the main campaign quests (indicated by a gold arrow icon) for significant experience and story progression. Side quests (blue arrow icon) offer additional experience and valuable item rewards.
• Grinding: Repeatedly defeating monsters in specific zones can be an efficient way to gain experience, especially in areas with high mob density like the Theobomos Lab or Dredgion.
• Instances: Dungeons and instances, such as Nochsana Training Camp or Adma Stronghold, provide excellent experience, unique gear, and often repeatable quests.
• Rest XP: Log out in a safe zone (like a city or an Obelisk) to accumulate Rest XP, which grants bonus experience when you resume playing.

Equipment & Gear Enhancement

Your gear is paramount to your character's strength. Understanding how to acquire and improve it is vital.

1. Acquisition:
   • Quest Rewards: Many quests offer gear as rewards, especially early on.
   • Mob Drops: Enemies can drop various pieces of armor, weapons, and accessories.
   • Crafting: Professions like Weaponsmithing, Armorsmithing, and Tailoring allow you to craft powerful gear. Gather materials from the world or purchase them from the Broker.
   • Instance Drops: The best PvE gear often drops from bosses in high-level instances.
   • Abyss Points (AP) & Medals: PvP gear is primarily purchased with Abyss Points (earned through PvP combat and quests in the Abyss) and various Medals (e.g., Ceramium Medals). Visit the Abyss Gear Merchant in your faction's main city.
2. Enhancement:
   • Enchantment Stones: Use Manastones to add specific stats (e.g., Manastone: Attack +5, Manastone: Magic Boost +14) to gear with Manastone slots. Right-click the Manastone and then click the gear piece. Be aware of the chance of failure, which can destroy previously socketed Manastones.
   • Godstone Enchantment: As mentioned in Combat, Godstones add powerful proc effects to weapons.
   • Tempering: Certain accessories can be tempered using Tempering Solutions to increase their base stats.
   • Conditioning: High-level gear can be conditioned using Conditioning Supplements to temporarily boost its stats.
   • Fusing Weapons: Two weapons of the same type (e.g., two greatswords) can be fused together at an Equipment Fuser NPC. The main weapon retains its appearance and stats, while the secondary weapon's attack speed and Godstone effect are applied. This is a crucial step for maximizing weapon utility.

Economy & Trade

Aion's economy is player-driven, with various ways to earn and spend Kinah (the in-game currency).

• The Broker: This is Aion's central auction house, accessible in major cities. You can buy and sell almost any tradable item here. Always check prices before listing or buying to ensure you're getting a fair deal.
• Gathering & Crafting: Professions are an excellent source of income. Gathering raw materials like Aether or Ore, and then crafting them into valuable items, can be very profitable.
• Quest Rewards: Many quests offer Kinah as a reward, especially daily and weekly quests.
• Selling Vendor Junk: Don't underestimate the Kinah gained from selling unwanted grey or white quality items to general merchants.

Flight System

Flight is a unique and integral part of Aion, allowing you to traverse the skies of Atreia.

• Wings: You gain your first pair of wings upon completing your Ascension quest at level 10.
• Flight Zones: Flight is restricted to specific zones, primarily the Abyss and certain open-world areas like Reshanta. Look for the wing icon on your minimap to indicate a flight-enabled zone.
• Flight Time: You have a limited amount of flight time, indicated by a blue bar. This can be replenished by using Flight Potions or by landing on solid ground.
• Aerial Combat: Combat in the air is distinct. Many ground-based skills are unusable, and you'll rely on specific flight skills. Be mindful of your flight time during aerial engagements, especially in PvP.
