In general, the rule of thumb is the S Tier Weapons are godlike weapons for most of the game. It’s either down to essentially build defining scaling on them, or because of how effective the core weapon skill set is.

S Tier Explained

The Firearm Blades Dual Blades Blademaster build are amazing for shooting and setting up the Clash Dual Blades playstyle. The speed of this weapon with its Discipline and Heavy Attack makes Clashing incredibly easy to perform, which can easily overpower enemies using a blade to clash against. Considering Clashing is an important part of the game, being able to endlessly combo, while taking no damage from a boss (despite them swinging their weapon at you) is incredibly OP.

Meanwhile the Empyrean Axe has one of the best mobility skills in the game. It’s extremely good for Axe playstyles to gap close annoying bosses and continue their Obliterate meters. Not to mention fire scaling on your Fire Temperance to keep important burns up on both bosses and low armored or no armored enemies. We use it in our Burning Axe Build.

Spear users rejoice, the Steampowered Spear is one of the best weapons in the game. Its synergy with fire, the extremely long attack range, the cleave, and the easy stagger knockdowns on enemies makes it a god tier weapon. What makes it better is it only cost a few Bamboo Shoots from the Panda trader too.

Then you have the Swords. Astral Sword is a must have for any Magic and Spell focused build because of the innate passive. The Zhanlu’s Sword has the best Feathering scaling in the entire game, making it the masterpiece of the Feathering Build. If you get this, then it becomes a key item for NG+ builds that typically get a full Corruption / Feathering setup as they approach the end of their first playthrough.

A Tier

In the A Tier, we typically have weapons that offer other decent moves. These are often second weapon type items. Alternatively, they are good scaling weapons, or offer Poise build up. Poise is one of the strongest status build ups in the game, and when capped, they often do really large bursts. These are a solid option if you don’t want to deal with Burn or Paralysis counters and want something reliably to increase your DPS against bosses or annoying packs.

Note most Longsword sit in this tier too. Longswords are typically pretty versatile weapons and are often really good, but not directly the best at something bar the Longsword Parry Counter playstyle.

B Tier

The B Tier weapons are weapons that are fine. Yet, they don’t really have any standouts. These are often starting weapons, or niche playstyle weapons that don’t have the scaling. In addition, they typically are weapons with worse scalings, weapons you get early on, or don’t have amazing special attacks on them.

You’ll often see weaker Clash weapons down here, harder to use fire weapons, or weapon’s with weaker scalings in comparison to A and S Tier, depending on when you get the item. Take the Plumed Grace for example. That’s an end game item drop from the very last boss. But, it’s not as good compared to its S and A Tier counterparts. Same for the Moonlight Dragon longsword. Decent weapon, but one handed magic swords are so much better as your primary weapon.

C Tier

The C Tier weapons are typically gimmicks or much weaker starting weapons in comparison to other weapons of the same weapon type. For example the Li Jiao’s Axe shoots a bullet from it as its special. It’s decent for staggering range opponents. You occasionally see this axe used from the Inner Demon encounters. But, other weapons do that too, and much better. It’s also not worth it for Axe players to spend Skyborn Migh
