New to The Universim? This guide walks you through the initial steps of starting your civilization, from placing your Epicenter to managing resources like water and food.
Hey there! So you're jumping into The Universim and want to get your little nuggets off to a good start? Awesome! This guide will walk you through the very basics, from setting up your first building to making sure your tiny civilization doesn't immediately collapse. Remember, there's no single 'right' way to play, but this should give you a solid foundation.
The Tutorial
When you first boot up the game, it'll offer a quick tutorial. I highly recommend doing it! It covers the camera controls and gives you a feel for what you're supposed to be doing. It’s a great way to get your bearings before you’re thrown into the deep end.
The Mother Planet
Once you're in, you'll see your starting planet. Each one is randomly generated, so it'll look different every time. Think of it like Earth – it's got water, land, seasons, the whole deal. This is where your civilization will begin and grow.
The Epicenter: Your First Building
The very first thing you'll place is the Epicenter. This is super important – it's the heart of your settlement. When it's built, it'll pop out four little nuggets to get you started: two adults and two kids. Your goal here is to place it smartly. Try to find a spot that's close to a water source, some trees (for wood), and some loose rocks. Having these nearby means your nuggets won't have to travel as far to grab essential resources, which saves you precious time early on. To place it, just left-click where you want it, and then confirm the action when prompted.
Construction: Building Your Foundation
With your first four nuggets running around, the adults will start gathering resources. Your first priority should be building a Well. Click on the hammer icon in the bottom-left corner to open the Buildings menu. You'll find the Well under the 'Epicenter' category. Once you select it, its outline will follow your mouse. Place it near a good water source – the game will show you numbers indicating water quality; aim for the higher numbers! While the Well is being built, you can start thinking about other water-dependent buildings. If you have multiple water sources, you could set up more Water Pumps or even Fisher Piers to get food. More water access just means faster resource gathering.
Food for Thought
After the Well is up and running, it's time to tackle food. You've got a couple of options: fishing with those Fisher Piers, or building Farms. If you go the farming route, you might need another Water Pump to ensure your crops get enough water. Different crops have different needs – some prefer certain temperatures or biomes, and some take longer to grow but yield more. For a beginner, it's often easiest to start with a crop that doesn't need a ton of water.
Keeping Things Running: Maintenance
As your population grows, you'll need to think about upkeep. Build an Engineer's Hut so you can repair buildings. If your structures fall apart, you'll have to rebuild them from scratch, which is a huge waste of resources. It’s also a good idea to build a Hospital or a Cemetery around this time. Injured nuggets lose health over time if they aren't treated, and dead nuggets can spread illness if they aren't buried quickly. A widespread sickness or injury outbreak can quickly cripple your civilization.
Extra Amenities
Once the basics are covered, you can add some nice-to-haves. Building an Eatery lets your nuggets turn raw food into prepared meals, which is more efficient. A Forecast Tower can give you a heads-up on upcoming weather and seasonal changes, helping you plan ahead.
Keep Growing!
The core loop of The Universim is about managing demand as your population increases. You'll constantly need to add more of the buildings you already have – more Water Pumps, more Farms, more Hospitals, and so on. The game currently has a cap on nugget population, but that's expected to change as development continues. Just keep expanding and adapting, and you'll be well on your way to a thriving civilization!
