Learn how to block in Street Fighter II by holding Left. Understand vulnerabilities and projectile defense.

Blocking in Street Fighter II does not have a dedicated button. Instead, you must hold Left on your controller just before an opponent's attack lands. Your fighter will then automatically block incoming attacks, including projectiles, even from a distance. You can stop blocking at any time by releasing the Left direction, jumping, or when the opponent ceases their attack, which allows you to move backward again.

This blocking technique also works while you are ducking. However, blocking cannot be performed in mid-air, and your fighter's head remains vulnerable to attacks from above.

Tips
  • Hold Left before the attack to initiate a block.
  • Releasing Left, jumping, or the opponent stopping their attack will end the block.
  • Blocking while ducking is possible, but mid-air blocking is not.
  • Be aware that your head is still vulnerable to high attacks even while blocking.
